King Mahendra's visit to Israel[edit]

According to the article, king Mahendra visited Israel in 1963. However, the picture of Mahendra's visit to Weizmann Institute is dated 1958. I am certain that the date of the picture is correct, because it was taken by Shaul Gassner, who hosted a part of the visit and happens to be my grandfather. Is it a mistake in the article, or the king may have visited Israel more than once? Deminimis 11:38, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

King visited several times. The source says in 1963. Details about his 1958 visit would be good. KazakhPol 06:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not document any visit of Mahendra in 1958 here. It was Prime Minister BP Koirala who started the bilateral ties with Israel. His determined humanitarian stance on Israel after Holocaust is also reflected in one of the novels that he authored called Hitler ra Yahudi (Hitler and the Jews). His derermination about Israel and visit to the then controversial Israel, while powerhouses of Asia were still mum about the issue, is considered as one of the boldest moves of modern Nepalese humanitarian foreign policy. Mahendra, after obtaining power through military coup which overthrew the democratically elected government of BP Koirala, visited Israel to seek international recognition for his autocratic regime. So, it is more likely that Mahendra visited Israel after BP Koirala only. --Eukesh (talk) 09:03, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
