In the Dictionary of Irish Biography, it only says that he was demoted twice "during army reorganisation" in 1922-3: first to major-general and then to colonel. It doesn't say why. Scolaire (talk) 20:07, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The article Irish Army speaks about a massive reduction in size in 1923/1924. For many that meant leaving the army or stay with a lower rank. The Bannertalk 16:12, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
