DeLay

Where is the discussion of his relationship to DeLay? That's the only reason this guy is in the news -- User:66.254.244.169.

Not the only reason; the bilking of Indian casinos has been pretty important. This article could use some de-POVing though ("partner in crime" comment, which also doesn't identify Scanlon) -- User:207.191.23.56

I added a lot about DeLay, Ney and Burns.--Gorgonzilla 23:33, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

time magazine

I read the time magazine interview of Abramoff is it just my pov or was the whole thing just a let-the-sob-lie artical? -- User:132.241.246.182/User:132.241.245.49

This article seems to be slightly slanted as are the hundreds of news articles that have been published about Abramoff. The facts are that he is a political lobbyist who raises money for congressmen. He is being indicted for a scandal that is relevant to Casino boats in Florida. His opinions from personal emails regarding the native americans he deals with are awful and terrible.

I can't however see what the connection of those inciting emails are to the case in which he is being indicted and his fundraising work for congressmen. It would be nice for Wikipedia to have an objective entry that delves into his charity donations and other life despite his misgivings rather than his interest in sports teams.

I agree, however I am trying to edit this into a reasonable shape and I started at the top and worked down. I think that the significant issues here are the three indictments and the DeLay/Ney/Burns ethics allegations. The fact that he called his clients 'monkeys' and 'troglodites' while doing so is pretty irrelevant.--Gorgonzilla 21:46, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

Worth posting?

"What is not widely known, however, is his close connection with Jack Abramoff, who is at the center of the lobbying scandal in which Washington is now embroiled. Rove let archconservative operatives like Grover Norquist call shots at the White House. And just this week, a Texas judge ruled that a former Rove lieutenant must face felony charges of money laundering for Tom DeLay’s political operation. "Without further ethics reforms, the public has virtually no ability to find out what is really going on in Washington these days," Kelley said. "But what we do know is starting to smell, and it offers a starting point for further investigation." For sources on the following, and a 5-point plan to limit the influence-peddling in Washington, see http://www.cleanercongress.org -- When Rove got to the White House in 2001, he hired as his personal assistant Susan Ralston, previously Abramoff’s personal assistant. Ralston has since become an insider’s insider. -- Norquist reportedly made a deal in which Ralston would take messages for Rove at the White House, then call Norquist to tell her whether she should put the caller through.

A US grand jury in Guam opened an investigation of controversial lobbyist Jack Abramoff more than two years ago, but President Bush removed the supervising federal prosecutor, and the probe ended soon after.

There are actually two investigations going on. The first was suppressed in suspicious (i.e. corrupt) circumstances by Ashcroft/Bush. The second is ongoing.--Gorgonzilla 15:58, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

DOB and Real Name

Here's a source on the DOB:

Now, does anybody know Jack Abramoff's real first name? Sorry if i'm skeptical, but i'm going to guess Jack is not his real first name. Granted, figuring out the first and middle names of someone under indictment is probably not too relevant.

The Restaurants

Abramoff used to run a chain of power dining restaurants, now he is down to one. There is a set of scandals on that as well. He is alleged to have illegally 'comped' many GOP politicians including DeLay. He also funded a number of expensive luxury jollys for DeLay such as the golf trip. --Gorgonzilla 16:04, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
