The X-Files[edit]

For his many services to the series The X-Files...

I asked him about this today, and he says he doesn't recall specifically advising them, but he can't say for definite that he didn't, as random people often tend to ring him up and ask him interesting questions. Does anyone know for definite? -- Nicholas Jackson 21:11, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Still in Mensa?[edit]

"Jack Cohen is a member of the high IQ society Mensa." I know he was, but in conversations with him I was party to in the 1990's Jack implied that he had left that organisation. Is it possible to confirm that his membership is current and active? If not, rewording is indicated. 87.81.230.195 (talk) 02:19, 5 October 2009 (UTC) Jack was basically the founder, with his wife Mia, of the Boston, Massachusetts chapter of Mensa, and it was while resident in Boston that he became close to Asimov. Worth mentioning? I note there is little mention of his time in the USA in the article.24.168.74.214 (talk) 20:35, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

According to the reference "It is not Mensa policy to confirm or deny membership", so this applies to most living people noted as Mensa members in Wikipedia. What someone says may or may not be true and is not encyclopedic. However in this case, it might be noted with references that he has held positions in Mensa.Chemical Engineer (talk) 22:23, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
He was a speaker at a Mensa event to celebrate its 65 anniversary in Jan 2011.[1]Chemical Engineer (talk) 22:32, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ian Stewart collaboration[edit]

The prose and the list of his books suggest that someone may be able to describe their collaboration as a whole. If so, that will make the article more coherent. --P64 (talk) 20:03, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quality improvement project - Lie-to-children[edit]

I've embarked on a Quality improvement project for Lie-to-children, first introduced as a phrase in The Science of Discworld. If you've got recommendations for additional secondary sources that could be utilized to further improve the quality of the article, please suggest them at Talk:Lie-to-children. Thank you for your time, — Cirt (talk) 02:34, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There's an earlier discussion of the lies-to-children in Cohen and Stewart's 1997 book Figments of Reality, which predates The Science of Discworld by a couple of years. The title Liar-to-Children is introduced on page 30 as a respected role (analogous to "teacher") in the alien Zarathustran civilisation, and the concept of lies-to-children is further discussed later, on pages 37-38 and 140 in particular. I had a quick look through The Collapse of Chaos (1994) but I couldn't find it in there, so I think Figments is where it's first introduced. -- Nicholas Jackson (talk) 23:21, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
