Poland ??[edit]

"Born in Poland, Yellen emigrated...". - There was no Poland in 1892. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.211.170.53 (talk) 19:13, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

1.) Poland is known as country from 966 (in Ibrahim ibn Yaqub memories), but in XIX century was full occupied by neighbors.
2.) https://staremelodie.pl/piosenka/2145/Mein_jidisze_Mame in comments: "Jacek Jeleń was born in the countryside near Suwałki (...) & emigrated to USA, when he was 3 or 5 years old" (unfortunately, not precisely & without sources) - this area was occupied by Russia, close to German (East Prussia) border & before, in time of common polish-Lithuanian state, it was in Lithuanian part; in everyday life people used languages Polish, Yiddish, Lithuanian or Belarusian; 1th notation about city Suwałki was in 1688; it's Polish city, close of area (Puńsk) with big Lithuanian minority. Name of village "Raczki" in polish mean "little crayfishes" (& this village really is on small, but famous, clean river Rospuda). In XIX century to neighboring village Dowspuda count Pac invited 500 modern farmers from Scotland - unique in Poland. On smaller village near of Raczki was Jewish cemetery http://www.sztetl.org.pl/en/article/moczydly/12,cemeteries/16203,a-jewish-cemetery/.
3.) Word "Jeleń" in Polish mean "Deer", it's here not in Russian, simmulare form "Олень". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.73.215.200 (talk) 07:21, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
