Page move to Chery Explore 06[edit]

This page should be move to Chery Explore 06, for the following reason,

1.Chery Explore 06 is now an official name for the vehicle under Chery brand. [1][2][3]

2. Jaecoo and Omoda is Chery's brand that targets at selected oversea markets (mostly mid-east countries and Russia) and it is not a global brand. For example, instead of using Jaecoo or Omoda brand, Chery is using the "Chery" brand in English-speaking country like Australia, and Omoda is just and model name. [4]

3. Chery never treat Jaecoo or Omoda brand as its core brands and didn't develop a model individually for those two brands along. All the current Jaecoo and Omoda models are rebadged Chery.

4. According to the latest announcement made by Chery Group [5] in this month, the Chery breaks down the sales of its brands into only three brand, "Chery", "Exeed" and "Jetour". Jaecoo and Omoda is merely an oversea sales strategy for fostering sales channels. They are not treated as independent brand yet.

See WP:CARNAMES for direct guidelines on how to properly name an article. The Australian link seems to be for a car branded "Chery Omoda 5"; this is already the name used for that car. The Explore 06/Jaecoo 7 (couldn't they at least have kept the number the same?) doesn't appear to be sold in Australia, nor in New Zealand. A car which is not marketed in any English-speaking countries should use the home market name - however, it appears that Jaecoo J7 (without Chery badges) is going to be the name used in South Africa at least, which means that such will be the title for this article until the situation changes. Comment: I never saw 'Chery Explore 06' spelled out in English in Chery's marketing material. Which means they probably haven't established a Latin/English name, and 'Explore' is just a direct translation (I've seen 'Exploration' or 'Discovery' as another translations). Chery has official launched this vehicle in China and named it Explore 06 (探索06). The official website has been added. User:Infinty 0, we have explained and linked to the WP Cars naming policy several times. Jaecoo 7 is already on sale in the Philippines and is on its way to South Africa and the United Kingdom. First, this vehicle is only on sale in China at present (since 20th August). And as far as I find, Jaecoo 7 is planed to launch in Philippines in this November. The Chery has even not begun any promotion of it outside China, can you find its official website in English? According to the naming principle WP:CARNAMES , quote "The titles of automobile articles should be the model name used in the country where the vehicle's manufacturer is headquartered", and it also raised the example.

The Daewoo Lacetti in South Korea is known in English speaking markets as the Chevrolet Lacetti, Chevrolet Nubira, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet SRV, Holden Viva, Suzuki Forenza, and Suzuki Reno. Under this naming convention the original Daewoo Lacetti name shall be selected for the article title.

In this case, Jaecoo is only a oversea rebadged brand for selected countries (please note that from the annual report of Chery Group, the Jeacoo brand is not even mentioned in the production statistics). Name the article with Jaecoo is lack of representativeness.

You are skipping the sentence that follows the one you quoted: If this model name is not used in English-speaking countries, then the article title should be the model name used in the majority of English-speaking countries. This is not analogous to the Daewoo Lacetti, this is like the Mazda3/Mazda Axela, in that all English-language markets (I know, sales haven't started yet) are going to use the Jaecoo name. It is not a matter of scale nor stakeholders, it's just a matter of what its name will be in English-speaking markets. This is exactly analogous to Daewoo Lacetti. In the case of Mazda 3/Axela, it's a different name under same Mazda brand. While Chery Tansuo 06/Jaecoo 7 is different brand and different model name, just like Daewoo Lacetti to Chevrolet Lacetti/ Chevrolet Nubira/Chevrolet Optra/Chevrolet SRV/Holden Viva/Suzuki Forenza and Suzuki Reno.

And there are more similar cases on the Wikipedia, like Baojun 530, a vehicle made by SAIC-GM-Wuling, which is exclusively sold in China and rebadged as Chevrolet Captiva/MG Hector /Wuling Almaz in other markets. Infinty 0 (talk) 23:36, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
