Last/Latest Version?[edit]

I have a CD with Jagged Alliance Ver. 1.13, and am wondering if that was the last/latest version, or if there is a later version (and/or patch) available. A.I.M.[edit]

I decided to write this here. A.I.M. is the correct way to write it and I will give you example why. For example there is profile named S.H.I.E.L.D. that is about organization in Marvel Comic books. It has full stops as its refered like that in every comic book and handbook its writen. This organization in the game is always refered with the full stops and changing it to this bio would be wrong as the makers of the game decided to write the acronym like that then its how its refered in here too. Its nothing to do with the rules of wikipedia or how its prefered to write this is about how it is ment to be writen by the makers of the game. --Wezqu (talk) 23:34, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The A.I.M. is used twice in the article - once as 'AIM' and once as 'A.I.M.'. I do have to agree that everywhere in the game this is spelled 'A.I.M.'. On the other hand, is the acronym really important enough to even be mentioned? --H3llkn0wz (talk) 13:31, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
They're the only place to get mercs in JA aren't they? Been a while since I played it. If they are the sole source, they're probably worth a mention in passing, and here on Wikipedia, we don't break up acronyms with full stops, regardless of how it's written in the game. Taken from the Wikipedia:Manual of Style.
"The full name should always be the first reference in an article, and thereafter acronyms are acceptable, as long as the acronym is given as an explicit alternative early (usually in parentheses). If used, acronyms should be used consistently throughout the article. There is no hard rule about periods—in general, avoid them. In either case, a consistent format should be employed throughout the article."
In reality as the A.I.M. acronym is used in every game of the series the fullstops should be in the name and there is not really hard rule of the stops than suggestion to avoid them and the stops are part of a usually used acronym of the organization it should stay with the dots. If it would not have the stop the article would not be accurate, but Geoff B doesn't seem to care about its accuration. --Wezqu (talk) 22:52, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you could comment on the issue without making personal remarks? Earlier you said this is nothing to do with the rules of wikipedia, now you're quoting the manual of style? So which is it? I particularly enjoy your selective blindness, where you quote one part of a sentence There is no hard rule about periods and then ignore the very next part, —in general, avoid them. Must be useful to have such a selective vision impairment. How about this bit from the manual of style, section title Acronyms: Acronyms and initialisms are generally not separated by full stops (periods) or blank spaces. - Can you see that, Wezqu? Still you seem not to see that there is other pages in this wikipedia that use full stops in acronyms as thats how they have been writen in the comic, book or game where it has been used. The comment was meaning the edits made by you removing the acronym and just stating that there is a rule in manual of style that says it should not have the full stops even when I did write on the edit summary why they should be there. Stating that there is not a hard rule about it as the manual of style states. I didn't quote one part of the statement there is the whole statement there I only highlighted the part you seemed to miss. Also you saying that I have vision impairment is more of personal remark than what I said. Also don't you see the word "generally" in both of those statements as that word means "usually". So I'm following that rule as there is a good reason why it should be writen with the full stops as thats how its writen in at least six games. So make it '(abbreviated in-game as 'A.I.M.')'. This:
  • Clearly points out that in the fictional game universe, this is the way to spell A.I.M.
  • Makes sure this complies with WP "usually no periods", by clearly stating this case is an exception
