Merged from the old `Talk:Jaiku' page[edit]

I believe that Jaiku is an emerging community that is comparable to Twitter. It has importance to the online community, as it is used by radio, tv, podcast and web celebrity Leo Laporte. This article is just like one comparable to Myspace, as many people use it (not as much as myspace). I ask you to recind your deletion request, as it does not seem to apply. pronunciation?[edit]

Does someone know how to properly pronounce Jaiku? Is it the same as Haiku? I think this would be a helpful thing to add at the top, — Rdjones 21:54, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia usually has the pronunciation but wonder why it's missing here. A Spanish-speaking person wd pronounce jaiku as haiku since J is pronouned H in Spanish. This article says Jaiku was started in Finland. In Finland J is Y (remember old atlases with Jugoslavia?) as it is in Dutch and some other languages. Then it becomes close to YIKES! Were the Finns anglicizing the term? If so, then J is pronounced J as in English. Oh, Wikipedia, pls reveal the truth. Daedalexa (talk) 19:15, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

-Being a Finn, and thus being able to pronounce the words behind Jaiku's etymology (and being somewhat nerdy, I also speak of Jaiku every now and then), I'd describe the correct pronunciation to be /'jaiku/ (since Finnish is rather phonetic in its writing). Article lacks WP:A to establish WP:N[edit]

Wikipedia articles must be based on reliable sources to establish notability, and the author has not provided any ... without them, this is just original research, which is prohibited by official policy.

The author has removed the {{db-spam}} tag placed by another editor (twice!) without offering any real improvements to the article, so I have restored it as {{db-web}}, which is more appropriate ... read WP:3RR and do not remove the tag again. —72.75.73.158 (talk · contribs) 04:56, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am disappointed[edit]

I am disappointed there is no real jaiku page. Are the people who run Wikipedia really this out of touch with the "reality on the ground"? I came here hoping to learn what jaiku was about, after reading the article about Twitter, and was sorely disappointed. Cbreitel 15:37, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

cleanups to references[edit]

I have added {{cite web}} templates with |accessdate=2007-05-10 for all of the references provided by the author and other editors ... I also verified all of the URLs as working (and not being in violation of WP:EL) as of today ... not that I think that this really helps establish WP:A for WP:WEB, but at least they are all in a consistent format to better judge their qualifications as WP:RS ... which none of them do, IMHO ... Thanks to all of you who supported the keep nomination of the Jaiku article I created. I guess it really was notable!

I don't really see that. I don't see a single argument for keep on that AfD that addresses notability in any way laid out by WP:WEB, in fact I see a lot of arguments based on methods no longer accepted by the community (e.g. WP:ILIKEIT, whataboutarticlex, googlehits, etc. etc). Unfortunately I don't see a source used outside of those from Jaiku which meets WP:V, per the discussion at: Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Techblogs, which means there are zero reliable secondary sources currently used in this article and no sources on which to base notability. Even if they're now owned by Google, notability isn't inherited, and we require significant coverage by multiple reliable sources, independent of the subject.--Crossmr (talk) 04:48, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Revert of last change[edit]

Undid the last change as switching from a comparison with a citation to one without seems incorrect. Adding a citation for the comparison to Plurk that explains why that is a better comparison would help. However explaining a fairly obscure website in terms of a well-known website seems likely to be more helpful than explaining a fairly obscure website in terms of an even more obscure website.Ade oshineye (talk) 09:16, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Meaning of the word Jaiku[edit]

Hello. Does anyone know where the the name of Jaiku is derived from? I have been trying to decipher the meaning, it might add some good information for the article's introduction. As far as I can tell it doesn't translate directly into Finnish. I only speak a tiny bit of Finnish, are there any Finnish speakers who can fill this part in? Thanks! Link to the archive as well as the old homepage?[edit]

As Google closes the service on jan 15th the URL to jaiku.com will lead to a dead end. Is it OK to keep the old URL listed in the infobox Company, but also add a link to jaikuarchive.com (Please note, Jaikuarchive is a community driven ad free, not for profit project that only aims at preserving an important pieace of online history.) --Jardenberg (talk) 10:09, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
