The phrasing of "Polish Ukrainian" in the lead could cause confusion to the reader and make them think that he was part-Polish, possibly perpetuating the myth that ethnic Poles worked as concentration camp guards.
It should be clarified that he had Polish citizenship only, and like many ethnic minorities in interwar Poland, did not identify as Polish. I think "Polish-born Ukrainian-American" (mentioning his later-life residency too) would work better, as well as changing the short description, again, he did not identify as Polish, so saying anything else would be wrong Rousillon (talk) 12:40, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if it's malice or simple confusion (Western Europe & North America tend to use "nation" for "body of citizens", Eastern Europe – for "ethnicity"), but otherwise I agree. Why would a Polish citizen use "Jakiw"/"Yakiv" for James? Only because he was Ukrainian. Ethnic Poles use "Jakub" (earlier also "Jakób"). 89.64.70.33 (talk) 17:43, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
