Military Career[edit]

It remains to be ascertained what military employment he may have had after outbreak of WWII (3 September 1939). The post he was appointed to that year (before or after outbreak?) was an honorary Colonelcy, although he had been placed on the "Active List" of Colonels in 1932. CWGC list him as a "Civilian" casualty while mentioning his military title. The Parliamentary Roll of Honour at St Margaret's, Westminster, lists him as "Colonel, R.A.S.C.", implying he was in mobilised service. The article as whole has been populated with information from Who Was Who and his obituary in a Shropshire newspaper.Cloptonson (talk) 09:05, 20 May 2012 (UTC) I have checked and found him not listed on the CWGC's Brookwood Memorial in Surrey, for which he would have qualified as a result of being lost at sea with no known grave if he had been a serving British Army member.Cloptonson (talk) 22:04, 22 May 2012 (UTC) I have amended the link to his CWGC casualty record successfully, which was ineffective before I began the amendment.Cloptonson (talk) 18:42, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have a newspaper clipping (June 1940) in a family scrapbook which quotes Colonel S. Baldwin-Webb, M.P., secretary of the Anglo-French Ambulance Corps, though they used the initial "S.", which was almost certainly a mistake?! How many M.P.s and Colonels with that surname can there have been?! I can email the clipping to whoever might be interested if I'm sent details. It contains a quote from him about the retreat from Compiègne to Bordeaux earlier that month. Phil (talk) 19:44, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
