Dates of birth and death[edit]

According to an online biography by Ferenc M. Szasz, which is a chapter in the book Atomic West, Tuck was born in Manchester, England on January 9, 1910, received the OBE in 1943 and is deceased, although a date of death is not given in that article. Order of the British Empire[edit]

CV and autobiographical sketch[edit]

I have obtained a short (declassified) CV and autobiographical sketch from an archivist at Los Alamos National Laboratory; I have added it to the references. Although this document is not widely available in libraries, it can be obtained upon request from LANL, and as a primary document written by Tuck ought to be included in the references.

It is clear from the CV that Tuck was never knighted, which confirms my earlier inability to find anything about a knighthood. The only honor listed in this 1974 document is the OBE, received during or shortly after World War II. Professor Szasz's entry in The Atomic West indicated that the OBE was awarded in 1943; however, that date is inconsistent with the primary document I have, which lists 1945 in the CV section but 1944 in the biographical section. Thus, the date of the OBE is uncertain, but almost certainly not in 1943. I have consulted with Professor Szasz, who concurs with this conclusion. Therefore I have removed the 1943 date from the Wiki article and left it out entirely. If anyone has a clever idea please feel free to implement it. Correct information about the date of his OBE can be found in the London Gazette. A search found the following entry in the Gazette Issue 36547 page 2670 published on the 2 June 1944. Page 4 of 16. "James Leslie Tuck, Esq., Senior Experimental Officer, Ministry of Supply."

There's an appearance by James Tuck talking about ball lightning on the Arthur C.
