Slesser or Slessor?[edit]

I've just been digging on this a little. The ODNB and Who's Who both have his name as "Slesser"; he's "Slessor" in the London Gazette (and the dictionary of Polar Medal recipients, but we'd expect those to agree), Stephen Haddelsey's recent book on Operation Tabarin, and Robert Headland's Chronology of Antarctic Exploration. I haven't been able to find anything by Marr using his full name, either in published material or handwritten. Normally I would go with the ODNB as more accurate (it does cite his birth/marriage/death certificates) but it seems odd that all the secondary sources align on the other spelling. I'll keep poking at this and see if I can get a definitive answer.

Having said that, this page should probably just be at James Marr (biologist) or similar - it seems odd to use the full name when he, as far as I can see, generally didn't. Andrew Gray (talk) 15:39, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Before I forget about this forever, I've moved the page and added a footnote about the name. I've not had any luck determining which form he himself used. Andrew Gray (talk) 13:20, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Hi, I've added a photograph of Marr taken during Operation Tabarin (public record held in British Antarctic Survey Archives) but didn't like to remove the image request as I expect the scouting body would like one of him as Scout Marr. Buckland1072 (talk) 16:50, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
