most-decorated 82nd Airborne officer[edit]

The opening paragraph states that James Megellas is "the most-decorated officer in the history of the 82nd Airborne Division," having received a Distinguished Service Cross, a Silver Star ... The article states that he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for Nijmegen and the Silver Star for the Bulge. I found it surprising that no other officer of the 82nd Airborne Division was awarded both the Distinguished Service Cross and the Silver Star. I then noticed that his ribbons indicated three Silver Stars. Could someone resolve this anomaly? I realize the US has a tradition (a nicer word than industry) for late Medal of Honor awards but what disappoints me is unlike the post Civil War period where the only available medal was the Medal of Honor many of the late Medal of Honor awards since 1980 have been to servicemen who already hold the Distinguished Service Cross.
