John Edward Henry Simpson[edit]

On his Find A Grave page there appear the details:

  1. Married his cousin Margery on 8 May 1816 at Fivemiletown, Co.Tyrone, Ireland.
  2. Curate at Thornton, Leicestershire, England 1817-1825.
  3. Clergyman at Isham, Northamptonshire, England -(Curate) 1829 - 1836
  4. then at Drummully, Co. Monaghan 'Salient', Ireland 1836 - 1844
  5. then at Aghadrumsee, Co.Fermanagh, Northern Ireland 1844 - 1847.
  6. Rector at Drumsnatt Parish Church, Mullanacross, near Smithborough,Co Monaghan 1847 - 1872
  7. Died in Clones, Co.Monaghan, Ireland.
  8. Buried in St. Tighernach's Churchyard, The Diamond, Clones.
  9. Rev. & Mrs Simpson had 8 children which included one set of twins.

Checking out #4 would be a great help with Brown: who might then have taken over in some fashion the curate role at Isham.

His CCED page has

  • Curate at Thornton with Bagworth 1817 (Thornton, Leicestershire, not far from Markfield below)
  • Ordained priest 1818
  • Curate at Markfield 1818
  • Curate for the Ishams 1829

From other sources it appears that Simpson may have been back in Ireland for some years from 1825. He had a son Samuel Hoare Simpson (middle name presumably significant), possibly born in Northamptonshire c.1825. Perhaps some problems with the exact dates or places there. NB [1] dated 1827 has him a curate in Drummully. Charles Matthews (talk) 13:18, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Points #6 and #7 are verified (JSTOR 27699497).

From Clogher Clergy and Parishes by James Blennerhassett Leslie we have

  • Verification of 1844 in #5 [2]
  • On Samuel Hoare Simpson, born Northamptonshire, education details, entered Trinity College Dublin 1843 at age 18.[3]
  • John Edward Henry Simpson comments: 1847 at Drumsnatt. Was he the TCD student who entered 1809 aged 18? Licensed curate at Drummully c.1825. Verifies #4. Samuel Hoare Simpson was his son.[4]
