Failure to foresee motorized mobile war[edit]

1. The discussion of Bloch's prescience seems like Original Research anyway, not referenced by any reliable sources. 2. The mention that he could be faulted for failing to foresee mobile motorized warfare is absurd. He died in 1901/2! How could he foresee the tank? He spent the last years of his life fighting anti-Jewish activity in Russia! I'd like to edit that out. The failure to foresee the effect of artillery is a legitimate assessment, but still OR, needing documentation. Tapered (talk) 20:36, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I sympathise - it's hard to hold this against him - but the basic point holds. Bloch's argument, in essence, was that entrenched warfare would lead to stalemates (which it did) of such intractability that social collapse was the only limit factor. The 'failure' of his theory is only that it proved to be limited to a specific technological stage of warfare in its particular details (like Clausewitz before him).
