"On court nickname"?[edit]

Maedin, what is your source for concluding that "Peaches" was merely an "on court nickname"? See your edit summary here. Tennis expert (talk) 05:44, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps it was not only an on-court nickname; I admit that it was an assumption. However, I based the move on a skim of Google results, which showed that, although she is often referred to as only Peaches, she is just as often referred to as Jane Bartkowicz, or Jane ("Peaches") Bartkowicz. Peaches Bartkowicz is a redirect, and as naming conventions encourages <first name> <last name> format, and discourages use of unnecessary punctuation, and as the Peaches is not required for purposes of disambiguation, I felt it was reasonable to move it. Although, thinking about it, it would probably be useful to have a redirect at Jane Peaches Bartkowicz (without the " "). Maedin\talk 08:20, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, so now you believe that Googling is a proper method for determining the name of a Wikipedia article.... You should change this article back to its original name. Perhaps you would like to explain your reasoning? I have at least given this some thought, whereas "Peaches was not an ordinary nickname" tells us absolutely nothing. What would be of benefit here is a solid source that indicates Jane went by the nickname Peaches regularly, using it in her personal and professional life (instead of other people and bodies choosing to use it for her). Without that, I see no reason why Jane Bartkowicz is not an appropriate article title. Of course, in spite of your "retirement", you seem willing to take my poor choices to WP:RM, so will expect the same here. Maedin\talk 14:55, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
She appeared at Wimbledon for a number of years and one year was quite successful at doubles with Julie Heldman (whom the article hardly mentions). On the on-court scoreboard she was "Miss P. Bartkowicz" and the commentators always called her 'Peaches'. So I'm being bold and changing the article accordingly. Rothorpe (talk) 09:35, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Younger sister?[edit]

Hello - today I removed a statement, "She has a younger tennis playing sister named Plums" because it's not in the citation that was provided. I mention it here because it's not impossible, although it seems unlikely. If someone can find a suitable reference to support the sentence, then by all means reinstate it.
