Why did volunteers choose to go?

Did the people who were sent there voluntarily choose to take part in the mission? –Hokanomono 16:38, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Yes. 70.68.55.148 22:30, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Seperate - why?

Why is this a seperate article from the main article on the JSDF? It doesn't really merit existence other than a subsection of another article. --NightMonkey 00:15, August 9, 2005 (UTC)

I started a separate article because this is such an important event and thought there is much to say. But since the article has not developed much, so I agree that we should merge this to JSDF. -- Taku 01:55, August 9, 2005 (UTC)
I agree with the call to merge the articles. I've noticed that the JSDF article lacks a "History" section. Perhaps this would be a good oppertunity to incorporate the Iraq deployment into that. -Loren 02:02, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
Well, it appears we have consensus on this. I've not done a full article merge before, so I'm going to read up on how that is properly done before doing so. If someone beats me to it, I won't complain. ;) --NightMonkey 00:08, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Don't merge. The deployment of Japanese troops to Iraq deserves its own article as a political event of the year 2004. The debate involves a lot more than just the JSDF. There is enough information on peacekeeping in the JSDF article now, but this one here is too short. Instead of merging it, add more information, please.

  • How many troops were transferred?
  • Which units?
  • On which date did the first troops arrive?
  • Who is the commander of the operation?
  • Where are they stationed?
  • Why do they have to be protected by Australian troops?
  • Have there been opinion polls on the operation in Japan?
  • Do the United States back the Japanese campaign for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council in return?

You see, there are a lot of unanswered questions. -- Mkill 20:58, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Got some of these done already. - 70.68.26.80 06:19, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Update this secion please

please update this part

"Withdrawal

Japanese representatives are in talks with American, Australian and British military officials regarding the pullout of JGSDF forces in Samawa. Although Defense Agency officials at first denied a report that they would withdraw, they eventually said that all JGSDF soldiers of the JIRSG would leave Iraqi soil by March 2006."

its currently half way though april -RiseRobotRise 08:12, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Need help in updating page

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%87%AA%E8%A1%9B%E9%9A%8A%E3%82%A4%E3%83%A9%E3%82%AF%E6%B4%BE%E9%81%A3

I believe this page may have more information on what units were sent in and equipment used. I also think that the commanders involved are here too. Somebody please edit this space. Thanks Ominae 06:04, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Error in Dates

The Japanese article on this subject claims that GSDF activities were from 2003-2009, not 2004-2006. (98.66.59.173 (talk) 01:43, 14 April 2010 (UTC))
