Photo error[edit]

The photo that is used is labelled on its photo page as ‘ezokuroten’. This is Japanese for Japanese Sable (native to Hokkaido) which is distinct from the Japanese marten (which occurs throughout most of the rest of Japan, and has been introduced to Hokkaido).

So it seems that this is a photo of a different species, and so the photo should be removed unless anyone can positively identify it as a Japanese marten and not a Japanese sable.

This CC attribution licensed photo from Flickr seems to be of a Japanese Marten (it is labelled as such (in Japanese) and looks right to me - but I’m certainly not an expert).

If anyone can confirm this, this photo could replace the existing one (I think the licence is OK for Wikipedia).

Recent Additions[edit]

I added citations to information in the intro and removed an unconfirmed species. I added several sections on the life and reproduction of the Japanese marten, its habitat, its affects on the environment, its affects on humans, and threats to its existance and steps taken to protect the species. All of these are supported by citations. --Luxembourg96 (talk) 08:28, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
