This article is too long and involves too much detail (e.g., his high school after-school activities and his childhood vacations?). The reason there are so many details is not because they are newsworthy or because they come from previously published source but because Jared himself posted two absurdly detailed resume-like biographies online that are basically reproduced in full here in this ostensibly neutral wikipedia article. An editor should run through things and winnow this down. Incredibly fawning entry[edit]

Fawning reduction initiated[edit]

I agree with all who came before me. I am removing the entire section 2.1. The cited reference reads as follows:

"During the peak of the protests in Iran, Jared Cohen, a young staffer at the State Department who worked for Slaughter, contacted officials at Twitter and asked the company not to perform a planned upgrade that would have shut down the service temporarily in Iran, where protesters were using it to get information to the international media. The move violated Obama’s rule of non-interference.

White House officials “were so mad that somebody had actually ‘interfered’ in Iranian politics, because they were doing their damnedest to not interfere,” the former Administration official said. “Now, to be fair to them, it was also the understanding that if we interfered it could look like the Green movement was Western-backed, but that really wasn’t the core of it. The core of it was we were still trying to engage the Iranian government and we did not want to do anything that made us side with the protesters. To the Secretary’s credit, she realized, I think, before other people, that this is ridiculous, that we had to change our line.” The official said that Cohen “almost lost his job over it. If it had been up to the White House, they would have fired him.”

The source is a meandering, 10 page-long New Yorker article, which I read. I still could not determine which "White House officials" were mad, nor to whom "the former Administration official" referred. It was possibly Jared Cohen himself, as the article date was 2 May 2011. Former Secretary of State Clinton doesn't actually mention Jared Cohen by name either.

Two attempted edits to remove the context in which Jared participated with others at State on eDiplomacy[edit]

Twice in the last week two anonymous IPs have attempted to remove the context in which Jared participated in others at State on eDiplomacy, first edit trying to say he was the principal architects when in fact web-based references provided show he wasn't (the same editor tried to remove these). Then the second IP address tried to remove the words "participating" and remove the same references again which clearly show he was a participant -- not the principal nor even a leading architect. This is round two. Wikipedia permits up to three rounds. I am concerned Jared may be using sock-puppets or his friends to trying and plus-up what was not a leading role, but one of a participant at the Department of State. 96.255.78.155 (talk) 01:28, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Still some POV work needs to be done[edit]

This article has been improved by other editors working to bring a more balanced POV. Some text in the article still is fawning or boosterism, so I have tried to make some additional edits to give a more balanced context. Others welcome to assist or raise concerns.
