Writing controversy[edit]

It appears that edit 338587185 by Katrinamsnbc does not have a neutral point of view. I would appreciate someone else reviewing the edit to make certain it meets Wikipedia's neutral point of view standards. If Katrinamsnbc is associated with MSNBC, there may also be a conflict of interest in this edit. The section should be written like this, from the "Up in the Air" paragraph above:
Reitman's Up in the Air screenplay has received wide praise and won the Golden Globe Award for best screenplay in 2010 (reference), although the Los Angeles Times raised controversy about the writing origins of the film.(reference)
I'll change it to this tomorrow if no one objects. The subject shouldn't be a paragraph, as it only has one article as a source and would thereby be attributing undue weight. But since the LA Times wrote on it -- definitely a reliable source -- it's at least notable to warrant a mention in the article.Svernon19 (talk) 10:00, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Let's be explicit about this. Let's say what the LA Times says, that the film had been under development by the time Reitman took it on, and that a previous version of the script existed. We should also consider who actually got credit for the script - at least one source says both Turner and Reitman got credit. DJ Clayworth (talk) 18:52, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
According to 'Up in the Air' Holds a Damage-Control Screening by Steve Pond (January 25, 2010) Sheldon Turner and Jason Reitman talked about their respective contributions at a Writer's Guild of America screening of Up in the Air on Sundary January 24, 2010.
Paraphrasing Steve Pond's article slightly, "Sheldon Turner discovered Walter Kirn’s book around 2001, and wrote a screenplay that he sold to DreamWorks in 2003. Years later, Reitman discovered the book as well. He persuaded his father, Ivan Reitman, to buy the rights – and while the elder Reitman commissioned a screenplay from Ted and Nicholas Griffin, Jason proceeded to write his own script. He did so, he said, completely independently of the Turner script, although he incorporated some elements from the script the Griffins had written for his father. And they, in turn, had seen and taken elements from Turner’s script."
The WGA awarded credit to both Sheldon Turner and Jason Reitman.

"a Canadian film director who also holds a U.S Citizenship"[edit]

I don't know that there's a test saying who is a Canadian and who just holds Canadian citizenship (but isn't Canadian). Most people would determine one's nationality by one's citizenship. Hence, the statement that appears later in the article, "Reitman is a dual citizen of the United States and Canada", is the appropriate description of Reitman's nationality.
