GA pass[edit]

The article is broad in coverage, well-written, neutral and well referenced. You may try adding some Metacritic/Rotten Tomatoes scores and the full worldwide box office though to put this at the upper end of the GA scale though.Wiki-newbie 19:56, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cast/Characters[edit]

Can we add cast and characters? HoneyBee 19:19, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plot[edit]

I just put the sequences in order according to the movie. I have some trouble with grammars :( and I think it's too long. Maybe someone can help? Thx. HoneyBee 22:01, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have been editing the plot heavily, because it's too long but detailed. Just bear with me, please. HoneyBee 21:16, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've cut some of it down and removed some of the more informal language. The JPStalk to me 21:31, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the pic to the left so it would look shorter. If ppl disagree, just move it back again to the right. What do you think? Also wanna add, that we never saw the pilot was eaten by the shark (he was drown). Let me find the confirmation first. HoneyBee 18:59, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just how official a sequel is this?[edit]

Just asking because, although it features so many of the same actors as the first one, it had no co-operation from either Benchley or Spielberg, which makes me wonder whether or not it should be classed as an official sequel. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ohdear15 (talkcontribs) 18:38, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Of course its an official sequel. It was made by Universal Studios who owned the film rights for the Jaws franchise. Lots of sequels don't have input from the writers and directors of the original film (i.e. Alien, Aliens, etc). 88.104.24.27 (talk) 02:33, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Went crazy"[edit]

This sourced sentence about the actor going "crazy" shows his desperation to be relieved from the movie. I think that's pretty important. The phrase "went crazy" is now in quotation marks. The JPStalk to me 16:57, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have rephrased the contentious sentence into a direct quote from the actor's biography. The JPStalk to me 17:03, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies[edit]

I want to apologize for an "accidental vandalization" earlier. I was testing some editing issues and randomly chose this page, and ended up replacing the page with the word "poo" (yes, very mature, I know). I went to immediately revert but got an edit conflict as another editor had beaten me to it. As a long-time editor here it was unacceptable, so I want to simply apologize. For more info, see User talk:Dream out loud#July 2010. –Dream out loud (talk) 00:49, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jaws II[edit]

The article's lead sentence includes a mention of the film's title having an alternative spelling, Jaws II. Nowhere from Rotten Tomatoes or Roger Ebert to the film's poster or DVD cover have I ever found it officially written as II rather than 2. If nobody has objections, I will remove the alternate title by tomorrow. –Matthew - (talk) 02:28, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Slasher films[edit]

The wording in the article had suggested that Jaws 2 was perhaps influenced by slasher films which featured predominant teenage cast/victims, while in reality, the opposite is likely true. The source references only compare the similarities, but also point out the Jaws sequel pre-dates the teenage horror trope. Halloween was released the same year, but almost five months later, and was always intended to be a movie about a killer stalking babysitters, so the teenage cast was actually only four characters, and crucial to the plot. In other words, Halloween was no more a teenage slasher film than When a Stranger Calls, an obvious copy. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was four years before Jaws 2, but it could be said to contain a young adult cast, and is more in line with art house shock such as Saw and Hostel. It too was released in October. The most likely explanation for the very conspicuous addition of so many screaming teenagers in Jaws 2 is that it's creators recognized what other genres, such as sex romps, had already picked up on for years. Teenagers and college kids go to the movies in the summer time. Once someone had thought to do it with horror and psychological terror, and with the huge success of Jaws 2, it was unavoidable that the device would be repeated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juneblade (talkcontribs) 05:13, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just to clarify[edit]

In an attempt to quickly explain a slight alteration to the article, I feel that I may have inadvertently misrepresented the presence of the teenage characters in Jaws 2 on this talk page. Although the initial idea to include the characters may have indeed been a marketing ploy, the large number took on a symbolic significance, even while making it difficult to fully develop the characters themselves. If Eddie and Tina are removed from the group, as they often were, that left 13 total, with the number taking on a double meaning. The group is cursed, but the curse is removed as Marge becomes the sacrificial lamb while saving Sean. That left 12 on the water to be saved by Chief Brody. This religious significance is emphasized when Lucy is praying to Jesus and Mother Mary, the group is seen floating away, and then immediately following Chief Brody utters "thank Christ" when spotting Mike, Timmy, and Paul. Eddie and Tina can be said to represent sin in their pursuit of carnal pleasure, and of course, the shark represents a demonic beast. The original 13 can also have a biblical significance if one adds Mary Magdalene to the 12 disciples. (In fact, the name Marge, who is counted among the original 13 characters together on the water, is probably an amalgam of Mary Magdalene in order to emphasize that the number 13 is meant to be both negative and positive, which is also true throughout various religions.)
