Lamarque's name[edit]

Although everyone seems to be calling him Jean Maximilien now, that doesn't seem right. He was most likely known as Maximilien:

- In 1818, Lieutenant Général Max. Lamarque, M. le Général Max. Lamarque. http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k6119238n http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k57085086

- In a 1832 newspaper: "150 à 200,000 hommes accompagnant la dépouille de Maximilien Lamarque..." http://echo-fabrique.ens-lyon.fr/document.php?id=1120&format=search

- In 1835 : "Mémoires et souvenirs du général Maximilien Lamarque."

And more importantly, he signed his letters as "Max. Lamarque", not Jean Maximilien : "Salut et fraternité, Max. Lamarque"

In a 1841 newspaper, for the anniversary of Lamarque's death, a rather long biography also calls him "Maximilien Lamarque":

I believe that the man should be remembered as he was known at the time: Maximilien Lamarque.
