Criminal Conviction Subsection Tone[edit]

I hadn't heard about Jeff Smith in years, and came across his name today. Looking at this article (and BTW I don't know any details about whatever crimes he apparently was convicted of), the section in it about his conviction not only gives scant information about whatever he allegedly did, but the tone makes it obvious that whoever wrote this section was strongly in Smith's camp. It isn't explained what Smith's role was in the whole affair, and most of it is a description of reasons why Smith deserved (and yet didn't often get) lenient treatment. I’m fairly certain that this entire article is a promo piece—this convicted criminal forged a career upon his prison release as an author, writing a faux-virtue signaling, I’m-a-victim-not-a-crook book about the supposed state of affairs among our prison systems. The whole piece reads like a CV, with an obligatory, defense attorney-approved section on his criminal conduct, indictment, the supposed overreaches of the court and his excessive sentencing. He held a brief term as a Missouri senator, and otherwise has done nothing particularly noteworthy. I think it should be marked for review, and hopefully, deletion. To add to the above, the user who wrote this article originally is from Missouri, and suspiciously launched their account in 2008–right in the middle of Mr. Smith’s term in the Missouri legislature. I’m just sayin… Alanrobts (talk) 18:01, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
