Highest rank[edit]

The text says that his highest rank was brigadier general, but the box indicates that he attained the rank of brevet major general. Can someone harmonize those statements? Rammer (talk) 22:30, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Brevet" wasn't really a rank as such. It could be a form of recognition (since there were only a few medals in those days), or it could mean that someone of rank X fulfilled the duties suitable to rank Y (see Brevet (military))... AnonMoos (talk) 16:20, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unsure of birth year of Davis--1808 or 1828? Both years given. Gives his age as 51 when he died. Should it be 71?166.67.66.246 (talk) 12:40, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
