Voting record[edit]

I removed comments about Shilling's voting record because the news reports cited did not describe Shilling's vote. Connecting these news reports with Shilling's vote on the issue is against the guideline at WP:SYNTH. Any votes by Shilling that we tell the reader about should be connected directly to Shilling in the news. The Project Vote Smart website cannot be used as mortar to paste together an argument.

One source I removed described Shilling's opposition to AB6 but the article text that the source supported was about AB3 and AB4. This is not suitable. Binksternet (talk) 00:05, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that this is a misinterpratation of WP:SYNTH, the addition of a second source is not to "reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources", as there is nothing in the text that is not supported by the VoteSmart source. The second source was merely to show that the issues being voted on are notable, and did not support any part of the text that was not also supported by VoteSmart. Therefore I will add back these votes, unless you can illustrate how my interpretation of WP:SYNTH is wrong. --Tdl1060 (talk) 10:31, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The VoteSmart source does not assign any notability to Shilling's vote. You do. Your synthesis is that a bill is notable, Shilling voted on it, thus Shilling's vote is notable. This does not work; what you need is a news source commenting specifically on Shilling's vote and how important it was. Binksternet (talk) 14:10, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My claim is that these bills are notable, and I have shown sufficient evidence of that fact. If you can show where there is a rule, or even a guideline that states that lawmakers' votes should only be referenced by news articles and not a site such as VoteSmart than I will admit that I was wrong and move on. However I doubt that this will be the case, as I have seen numerous congresspersons' votes sourced to the House Clerk (or Senate Clerk in the case of Senators) which is a primary source. Otherwise I will readd these votes with only the VoteSmart reference, and using only wording that is reflected in that source. --Tdl1060 (talk) 14:30, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
These votes are not notable. They appear to be cherry-picked to create a particular narrative for the reader and unbalance the article. I concur with Binksternet's take on this. Gobonobo T C 17:41, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As has been discussed before, anyone is free to add other votes and positions to the articles in question if so choose, which other editors have done. Also, notability only delimits what topics can have articles of their own, not what information can be included in an article.--Tdl1060 (talk) 18:55, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Background[edit]

Apparently, her parents were two of the victims in the Brown's Chicken Masscre. Does anyone think this warrants a mention? [1] Paris1127 (talk) 02:35, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
