RfC - Description of the Independent Democratic Caucus[edit]
A new single-purpose account is trying to change the description of Hamilton's NY State Senate caucus, the Independent Democratic Caucus. The essence is that while elected as Democrats, the IDC supports the Republican leadership in the State Senate. No reliable source disputes that; for example, a NY Times article about the IDC states that "... the Independent Democratic Conference, a coalition of eight Democratic senators who collaborate with Republicans to share leadership in the chamber. By doing so, members of the I.D.C. reap perks and power that they would not normally receive had they remained with the mainline Democrats."
I won't break 3RR, but I believe the community will agree that the nature of the IDC is of key importance to Hamilton's political status, and needs to be properly described in the lede -- as it was until these recent edits. Kschlot1 (talk) 01:10, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Describe as supporting Republican control, obviously. The nature of the IDC is extremely well-cited. It feels like this account is quibbling over the details of the wording in order to obscure the overarching thrust of the source, which fairly unequivocally says that while it is technically part of a power-sharing deal, the IDC hands control of the chamber to the Republicans in exchange for stipends and other personal benefits.
