The painter James Naysmith[edit]

There is mention in this article (Legacy) to an 1845 "letter from the painter James Naysmith." I am aware that this information is taken from an article in the Herald, but I think that this is itself erroneous. The painter Alexander Nasmyth died in 1840, and his son, James Nasmyth, was an engineer and inventor (and has a Wikipedia entry). He was also an amateur astronomer and photographer, so could well have visited the Hill & Adamson studio where Jessie Mann worked. He was also an amateur painter, but this was not his major attribute. Without undertaking research into the letter, I would not dare to edit the article itself. There is, however, no reference that I can find to a painter named James Naysmith. Tithon (talk) 22:22, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
