Footnotes and Reliable References

Hello, I am currently evaluating articles for a class this semester and I am hoping to help out with this article about Jim Hodges. For this week I would like to answer the following questions: "Is any information out of date?" and "Is each fact referenced with an appropriate and reliable reference?" One thing I would like to recommend would be to include some footnotes to some of the paragraphs because it'll be really helpful to the reader to see where some of this information is coming from. Another suggestion is to update the external links to some of the websites because I couldn't access three of them while I was checking through. The references to information are really important however, referencing to a shopping site (such as shop.walkerart.org) isn't a reliable source of information. Therefore I would recommend a site such as artsy.net/artist/jim-hodges or other scholarly articles that will provide solid facts about his work or his life as an artist.

Looking forward to improve Jim Hodges' wiki page.

Hello, I decided to work on Jim Hodges' bibliography as my assigned article for class. If there's any questions or comments, I look forward to improving my edits and this article! Hope that's alright!

As for my plan, I hope to contribute to this article by adding more images, descriptions about his work, and some more information into his bibliography. In order to find good sources to use, I will research through some published books from my school's library and scholarly articles from sites such as JSTOR.org. I would also like to create separate sections within the bibliography such as Education, Exhibits, and Personal Life to organize the Wiki page for easier access.

Article Evaluation

The overall tone of the article sounded very casual, but also described assumptions of the artist's feelings during certain parts of his life without being sourced from the artist himself. I will be adding a photo of Hodges as well as more of his work to provide readers with more visuals of him and his art. Some links need to be updated and changed. And hopefully I will be able to provide a bigger pool of resources and articles to help cite all the information posted on the article. Any additional updates and notes will be posted here.

Style and Works Section

March 2018 copy edit

Okay, here are my notes for anyone who's interested:

• The article had some tone issues. Some of it read more like an art gallery program than an encyclopedia article. Wikipedia generally likes to use plain English and avoid poetic language. If you want to include a small passage of such material to capture an aspect of the subject, that can be done with a short attributed quote, so that the reader knows whose opinion it is and that it does not have the objectivity of Wikipedia's voice.
• I'm a bit curious about the most-cited source, Dallas Museum of Art. The actual source of this information is unclear to me; it has the feel of a primary source, like an autobiography or interview the museum promulgated.
• Section headers get sentence capitalization, so you should have Early life and education not Early Life and Education. There may have been some confusion because some of the section headers use the names of works of art which are capitalized as proper nouns. I've applied italics to these so it's clear they are titles.
• I was confused about the titles of two works of art: "With the Wind" (1997) and "You" (1997). Wikipedia uses italics for the titles of major works of art and double quotes for the titles of minor works of art. Here, the titles have both styles, and the only way that really applies is if the double quotes are part of the title. I was unable to verify the source so I left it as-is, but someone should check this.
• Hodges is currently a senior critic This is unclear. It's better to give something specific like "as of (date) Hodges was a senior critic" than an open-ended "currently", especially in this case where there's no citation. Remember, this is a biography of a living person (BLP), everything should be cited.
• Some Manual of Style issues like dashes for numeric ranges MOS:DASH, straight quotes MOS:CURLY, spaces at refs, lowercase positions MOS:JOBTITLE
