Edit[edit]

I edited the following line:

"Kelly is widely considered one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL and far and away the best quarterback to line up under center in the short history of the USFL."

I removed "widely" as that is unnecesarry. I also took out "far and away the best" as another USFL QB was Steve Young, a Hall of Famer who had more super bowl wins and a better passer rating. "Far and away" is extreme, in this context. It is fair, however, to say "possibly" as he was quite good, for all intents and purposes. If someone can find citations that state Kelly was far and away better than Steve Young, then this can be re-added. --L.A.F. 23:01, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You may now ADD the "far and away the best" back. Given your own logic, Doug Williams was also a better QB than Kelly was. Why? Because Doug Williams also won a Super Bowl. Add to that the actaul STATISTICS from the USFL...lets see:

Passing Att Comp Yds. Pct Avg TD Int Rate

    #6 Doug Williams, Arizona 509 271 3673 53.2 7.22 21 17 76.4

1984

    #8 Steve Young, Los Angeles 310 179 2361 57.7 7.62 10 9 80.6

Kelly WAS "far and away the best" when compared to Young and Williams and ALL the QB's in the USFL. The USFL, thats UFSL, that is the subject of the statement! Not the NFL. Since you removed it you can have the first opportunity to put it back. Jjjefferson (talk) 00:25, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, Kelly's page got a good improvement. I like the addition of the picture and such. Peach freak 02:39, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No citations for the supposed numerous relief efforts put in by Reich (Reich replaced and finished up for an injured Kelly in mid-game only once, in Super Bowl XXVII, a 52-17 Bills loss), and I'd love to see one story citing "controversy" over Kelly's Hall of Fame selection, because that's pure unadulterated bull. This is a page still in need of serious improvement, as there is waaaa-aaaayyy too much editorializing.

Other Stuff[edit]

Correct Dates?[edit]

The personal section of Jim Kelly's page is a little confusing. It states that Kelly's retirement from the NFL was largely based on his son Hunter being diagnosed with Krabbe disease. However Jim Kelly retired before the birth of his son by about two weeks. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9901E7DA123DF932A35751C0A961958260 JJPasadena (talk) 18:44, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Miami Hurricanes v. Buffalo Bills[edit]

Why is the bit at the bottom of the page about Miami Hurricanes starting quarterbacks? His career was mainly with the Buffalo Bills, so shouldn't it focus on Buffalo? Zyr shnikashnu 20:18, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

College's that NFL Players came from are ALWAYS considered part of their career. Do YOU put you College of Graduation on your resume? Do you include the Degree you recieved? Of course you do. Leave U of Miami references there. Jjjefferson (talk) 02:30, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Under the no huddle offense[edit]

i have a sports illustrated from 1985 that said the nfl changed the rules on the no huddle offense in the playoffs due to teams calling the bengals no huddle offense unfair. how is this credited to kelly? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.101.229.183 (talk) 02:08, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace was Pittsburgh[edit]

The Pro Football Hall of Fame lists Kelly's birthplace as Pittsburgh, among other reliable sources. Please do not change this information. Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 16:35, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Chad Kelly[edit]

Removed (the son of Jim's brother, Dan Kelly, who also lives in Western New York). He is the son of Kevin, Dan's twin brother. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.154.32.90 (talk) 20:27, 18 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hunter's death[edit]

Do we really need the last part about how the death of his son "deeply affected Kelly"

Is this really informative and worthy of inclusion in Wikiepedia? Aren't pretty much ALL parents (with rare exceptions) deeply affected by the death of their child? If there was some incident that showed that he had a harder time dealing with the loss than most, like if he ended his career because he couldn't bear the pain (which didn't happen) or it drove him to alcoholism or drugs to cope (which it also didn't) then it might be worthy of being included. But this is just him being sad like all parents who have to bury their young children. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:6000:D500:3D00:301C:7E93:32D:8C0A (talk) 11:01, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Residence????[edit]

It says he continues to live in East Aurora. When did he move to East Aurora? When he was playing for the Bills he lived in Eagle Heights in Orchard Park. I used to babysit some kids that lived a few houses down from his house. For Halloween he gave out candy bars from his "line" of candy bars. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AnalyticalChick (talkcontribs) 21:01, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Games played in 1982[edit]

Sports-reference.com says Jim Kelley played 11 games in 1982. However, he was injured and definitely did not play in the game against Notre Dame. His total yards etc. also are incompatible with a full 11 games. Someone said in the IRC help channel that the true number is three games played in 1982, but I couldn't find a source for that. Huon (talk) 22:04, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sports Reference is shoddy when it comes to college stats. I rarely ever see any less than the total amount of games the team played that year under "games played." I'd say remove that column here unless a better source can be found. Lizard (talk) 22:10, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
