General discussion[edit]

Hi EchetusXe,

Can you help me please to understand what the issue is with this article meaning that you keep hacking it around? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.65.183.52 (talk) 23:19, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you're edits are very constructive, thank you for that. But Wikipedia articles need to have a standard format. Take a look at Thierry Henry as a template. These 'Oldham Athletic - '78 to '83' sub-headings do not match the standard.
My changes were minor, but it is easier on my part to revert what you entered, sort it out, then re-add the information you added. Forgive me, not many anonymous editors know about page history and so on and just take it in their stride. Don't take it as a personal attack or anything. As you see the information you added is still there, it is just in the Wikipedia style.--EchetusXe 23:31, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there,

I'm happy to work with you, but politely and respectfully I don't understand why you are rolling back to such an old version. The version you have rolled back to has incorrect info.

Also the heading structure you refer to doesn't match those used in the Tierry Henry template that you refer to?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.65.183.52 (talk) 23:57, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, Henry was a bad example, the years aren't usually included. They are included for Henry because American sports players tend to have the years in the sub-headings. But it does demonstrate that the sub-headings can have '(1978–1983)' and so on if you feel the years help the reader.--EchetusXe 00:44, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again,

Just to add to the info above, the intro summary you added is inaccurate. For example he didn't start at Oldham when you said he did as he had been there before then as an apprentice. There are other inaccuracies in the summary you provided but hopefully that demonstrates my point? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.65.183.52 (talk) 00:16, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well he started his career professionally at Oldham in 1978, so any time he spent before then in the youth set-up in an unpaid capacity doesn't really matter. I have now put the correct year for when he transferred to Tranmere. If you want to add anything or find anything else to correct then do so on this version without reverting please. Don't want any changes to get lost. The article has gone from 3,103 to 11,360 bytes in 24 hours, so thank you again for uploading the information.--EchetusXe 00:44, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all,

Firstly thanks to everyone who has taken the time to review and correct the numerous edits that I have added from my research in attempting to develop and expand this article.

Something that I have found that could have helped further would have been for various editor comments being added not to contradict each other. For example if you look above it was suggested that I look at the Thierry Henry article and look to use that as a structure template. In doing so, updates that I have added have been reverted by others with comments saying that the format is non standard. If you look at the article on Henry, the contents list has sections based on club. Very sensible. The Henry article also includes the time frames in the heading for each club. When adding that format to the article on Jim Steel, others have booted this out for being non standard.

This is confusing. Any comments please?

Best regards one and all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.65.183.52 (talk) 13:54, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was me that reverted the text in the club sub-headings so as the years weren't listed, as I feel that looks better and is closer to a football standard. However, I note that Henry's article has them in (although in a better format than this article had them in) so there are clearly different approaches! Hiya El Dumpo,

Thanks for replying. Going by your reply hopefully you can see why I was a vortex of confusion in trying to sort the structuring out.

Hi all,

Anyone else have a view? Any opinion on which is the best format? I personally like that used on the Henry article but I am happy to go with majority opinion of course.

Also does anyone know what template I can use on the article to direct prospective editors to this dicussion? It's good to talk. I would like to use such a template to replace the 'reconstruction' template that I added a couple of hours or so ago, and so hand the article back over to the world for editing. Thanks also everyone for having beared with me during the article revamp,

Cheers all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.65.183.52 (talk) 14:33, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Either delete the template, or replace with {{Underconstruction}}. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 14:38, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya I like waffles,

That isn't the template I had in mind. Maybe I have it wrong but I seem to remember seeing something on an artcile from a template that says something like, "There is currently a discussion taking place on this acticle on the talk page".

I'll remove the template that is there anyway. Back over to you guys for any corrections to the edits in place. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.65.183.52 (talk) 14:51, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a list of templates: Wikipedia:Template messages.--EchetusXe 18:14, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi EchetusXe,

Thanks for the list. After all that I can't find what I am looking for in the list you provided so it looks like my recollection fails me.

Any views anyone on using the structuring that is in place as per the Thierry Henry article or the format that doesn't have the years with each club in the content list? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.65.183.52 (talk) 19:51, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
