Requested edit 6 March 2019[edit]

Hello, I am a paid employee of Jim Wilkes. We have a few corrections that we believe should be made to his biography, as well as a number of facts that we believe should be considered for addition to make his biography more accurate (all with the necessary references). Please see below and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. And as I am new to editing Wikipedia, please bear with me if my formatting is incorrect. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Corrections to make to the biography

1. Jim Wilkes is licensed to practice in 10 states: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas. [1]

2. It is incorrect to say, “…Red Vinyl Music sold the rights to 3,000 songs to Ole in a deal valued at $500 million.” If you carefully read the articles related to the Ole acquisition, you’ll see that Ole secured $500 million in funding from 12 U.S. and Canadian banks to be able to fund future acquisitions, such as the Red Vinyl Music catalog. The actual purchase price of the Red Vinyl Music catalog was not disclosed. [2] [3] [4]

3. We respectfully ask that you please review the paragraph under Excessive Fees and consider revising. The source document in footnote 10 is no longer available online. The source document in footnote 11 is a court document. It is our understanding that Wikipedia rules prohibit citing court documents as sources. Based on the one remaining available source, a more accurate paragraph could read:

"In December 2006, Jim Wilkes and his law firm Wilkes & McHugh, P.A. were sued by former clients in a class action suit filed in a U.S. district court in Memphis, Tennessee. The suit alleged that the law firm had knowingly collected millions of dollars in unlawful and excessive contingency fees in violation of Tennessee's medical malpractice act, which limits an attorney's contingency fee to one third of all damages paid and which requires court approval. The district court certified the case as a class action against Wilkes & McHugh. The case was ultimately settled for $4 million, without any finding of liability on the part of Wilkes & McHugh. The firm said the allegations in the suit were false and misleading." [5]

The above version still keeps the allegations and settlement outcome in the article but also allows includes the firm’s position on the matter (a statement that was included verbatim in the source article).

4. We respectfully request you consider removing or editing the statement, "During a 2012 Florida election, Wilkes used his music industry corporations to max out political donations."

This is only partially accurate and editorialized to imply it is a negative thing when in fact the article very specifically states Wilkes was "helping out his old friend in a manner that doesn't run afoul of the $500 contribution limit imposed by Florida election law." [6]

5. We respectfully request you consider removing or editing the statement, "While still in office, Wilkes provided the use of his corporate jet to Harry Reid."

First, the wording of the sentence gives the impression that Wilkes was in office, not Reid. Second, we question whether this piece of information is really relevant to the biography because it is not among the reasons Jim Wilkes has become notable.

Facts to add to the biography

  1. ^ The price of the acquisition was omitted. A To whom? inline template was appended to this claim, as it is not immediately apparent who or what "Ole" is.
  2. ^ The passages in the article which this proposal pertained to were removed by another editor.
  3. ^ This claim is sourced.
  4. ^ The passages in the article which this proposal pertained to were removed by another editor.
  5. ^ The National Law Journal's list of top 20 plaintiff law firms in the nation is not a subject which is independently notable in Wikipedia. For an item to be independently notable, it needs to have its own page in Wikipedia.
  6. ^ U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers Best Law Firms list for plaintiffs personal injury litigation in Florida is not a subject which is independently notable in Wikipedia.
  7. ^ The AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell for high ethical standing is not a subject which is independently notable in Wikipedia.
  8. ^ The Super Lawyers list for personal injury is not a subject which is independently notable in Wikipedia.
  9. ^ The Litigation Counsel of America and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers are not subjects which are independently notable in Wikipedia.
  10. ^ The Resident’s Rights Award from the National Citizens Coalition for Nursing Home Reform, the Florida Justice Association’s John E. Krupnick Award for Perseverance and the Florida Justice Association's President’s Award are not subjects which are independently notable in Wikipedia.
  11. ^ This claim states that Wilkes & McHugh represented the governor collectively, rather than Wilkes himself. Please clarify Wilkes' role in the Schiavo case. (See also note 12.)
  12. ^ This claim was approved because both the subject (Cedric the Entertainer) and the subject event (the Aliso Canyon gas leak) are independently notable in Wikipedia. This claim also states that Wilkes represented the litigant himself — compared to the Schiavo claim set aside for clarification which mentioned only the firm, but not Wilkes' role in the litigation (see note 11).
  13. ^ This claim does not name the individual involved, in order to determine whether the item is notable. A blank claim of a settlement without its corresponding litigant involved nor the circumstances of the case appears promotional.
  14. ^ While the positions of lieutenant, ensign, major, and general are positions held in the US armed forces, the positions of actor and producer usually are not.
  15. ^ Scholarships are usually given out annually, while this claim is that a scholarship was given out once, which makes it indistinguishable from a donation. Donations to unnamed individuals are usually not notable.
  16. ^ This part of the edit request proposal mentions "several" compilations, but only provides references for two of them.
