JOJO or JoJo

hello

Is it JOJO or JoJo? RickK 05:42, 16 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Clean Up/Expansion in progress

I removed nearly half of what used to be the original article because it was baseless POV speculation. If someone believes in it and wants to restore it, please give it a thorough revision first.

In the meantime, I'm going to try and expand on the original storyline, hopefully explaining what is meant by "Series 3" vs. "Series 6." I know the Video Game section needs a lot more information too. --Feitclub 20:54, Apr 16, 2005 (UTC)

After about an hour or so of trying to summarize Series 1 I'm starting to realize this is a bigger task than I expected. Maybe I'll come back to this one later. --Feitclub 21:57, Apr 16, 2005 (UTC)

Need someone to check this out: first paragraph last sentence: "It is the longest manga not to have a TV anime adaptation." The pronoun needs to be clarified as whether it is referring to JoJo or to Kochi-Kame. If it is referring to Kochi-Kame, it is irrelevant information and belongs in the Kochi-Kame article, not JoJo's. 76.28.230.116 03:52, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

The Infamous WRYYYYYY

I realize that the subject of "WRYYYYYY" has, as doubtless most internet memes do, resulted in little more than moronic attempts at joke articles describing it. While too trivial to merit its own article, I've tacked it onto the end of this one since it is a growing phenomenon and has actually been responsible for a sudden spike in interest in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Please don't delete it immediately out of disgust; I believe it's a rather appropriate treatment of the subject. --Romosome 10:09, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

his trademark throwing knives

He only did so once.

there no set amount of letters in the manga

In the scene with the steamroller 10 Ys are used.

A six-Y "WRYYYYYY" returns over 24,000 entries on Google

1,050. --Philip Nilsson 12:57, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I just searched and got 11,800 on "WRYYYYYY". I changed the "28,000" line to "over 10,000" and removed the "trademark" part from the throwing knives comment. Also, even if there are 10 Y's in the steamroller scene, it does not imply a "standard" spelling because as I said in the article, the cry is not exclusive to the steamroller or even Dio and is not even necessarily spelled with a W. On that note, what's the proper way to refer to "more than one y": Y's or Ys? And should they be in quotations? -----

Still 1,050 here, oh well.
One could argue that WRYYY (vs. UREEE, URIII, etc.) is the official choice as it's the last one used :) (or so I assume).
And for apostrophes, when used like that it's to make sure there is no confusion between what the word is and what signifies plural (for an example... dunno :p). In this case it could be left out without any problems, I never use it. --Philip Nilsson 14:23, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I own a copy of Shonen Jump Superstars, imported from Japan. Dio Brando's "Komu" tile features the speech bubble "WRYYYYYYYYYY---っ". From this, I'm assuming WRYYYYYYYYYY is the correct standard, 10 Ys. 82.16.6.228 22:15, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Why is this even an argument, it's onomonopoetic, sometimes it's UUURREEEEE and stuff, who cares, it's a noise.

A list of all the stands

How about it? I'll need help planning it anyway!

I started a new section introducing the stands, feel free to edit it.

First, what fields do we need per stand? I can think of Name, User(s), Powers (this would be in the main text of the entry, which also contains a description), and... perhaps the rankings from the manga if available? I think they originally come from some art book.

Secondly, what to call the page? List of JoJo stands? I don't like that. List of stands? —Philip Nilsson 19:46, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

I've got a test page (no longer up :p —Philip Nilsson 22:16, 29 September 2005 (UTC)) up now, along with a template. There might be a few parameters too many to the template. Comments are welcome and required. Don't mind the data, I'm just trying out all the features of the template. —Philip Nilsson 17:11, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

Found the Japanese page, スタンド一覧 (Stand list, so List of stands should be a good name). It uses a rather simple format with name:user (and notes?). —Philip Nilsson 11:47, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

K, I'm lazy, so I'll use the simple format. —Philip Nilsson 23:12, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

It will be cool (albeit tiresome) if you can somehow salvage the detailed breakdowns of each stand's physical attributes which can be found in the original manga. They give A-E grades on a stand's strength, speed, stamina, endurance, accuracy, potential and range.

if you need some images i can help you with that --Greedisland14 22:31, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

relations between the JoJos

The JoJo in the first part (Jonathan) is the grandfather of the JoJo in the 2nd part (Joseph). Jonathan's son is a fighter pilot who don't know how to use ripple, and had been killed by a vampire created by Dio before it was sunk into the sea.

therefore, Giogio (JoJo in part 5) is Kujo(Jo Jo in part 3)'s "grandfather's uncle", not "grandfather's stepbrother" (as mentioned in this wiki entry)

Good Article

This is a good article.24.62.188.208 02:20, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

JoJoestar

Not sure if it should be added, but it's been suggested by a few that JoJo comes from "Get Back" by The Beatles. It's also been suggested that the Joestars are named after the French rapper Joey Starr of Supreme NTM, but I think that Supreme NTM began after JoJo's run began. --72.138.133.124 03:41, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

I just checked, and Supreme NTM was founded in 1989. JJBA started in 1987. So that's a dead end. Good eye though, never thought of that. Hatewind (talk) 03:49, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

template for character pages

Template:JoJo Character - Malomeat 19:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

More Character Profiles

I's starting to add pages for main characters who aren't one of the JoJo's but I don't know how to put a link to the JoJo Univere thing.

just put JJBA In {{ brackets. - Malomeat 21:37, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

SBR

I think the Steel Ball Run section needs a bit more detail of the plot (i know it's still running), and less on (theories/speculation?) how it's universe was created--172.202.129.188 23:26, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

I would if there were more translations about. - Malomeat 02:37, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

I think I'll add a Johnny Joestar page tomorrow, maybe later tonight. The lack of one is annoying me. There's no Gyro Zeppeli one, either, so I'll make one for him as well. They won't be very complete, but they'll be something at the very least. - Protomanzero 02:39, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I added a Johnny Joestar page. I haven't created an article before, and so it's kind of funky. Someone should fix it up. I'd appreciate if whoever does tells me why it's so messed up, as well. I tried to use Jotaro's page as a cookie-cutter. --Protomanzero 21:15, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Proposed merge of article

Hello,

I've proposed a merge of the article Minor Characters of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure into this one because of the following reason, stated at Wikipedia:Merging_and_moving_pages:

  • There are two or more pages on related subjects that have a large overlap. Wikipedia is not a dictionary; there does not need to be a separate entry for every concept in the universe. For example, "Flammable" and "Non-flammable" can both be explained in an article on Flammability.

I've posted a similar message on the talk page for Minor Characters of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Please discuss the issue here, and indicate whether you wish to approve or oppose the proposal. Please remember to state your reasons clearly, and sign your edits using ~~~~.

I've proposed a merge from the article Minor Characters of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and not the other way around, because:

  • I believe the information provided in that article can be sufficiently represented in this one when taking its subject matter into consideration.
  • The other article is currently tagged as in need of wikification, as well as expansion, and I think both can be achieved during or shortly after the merger (if it does take place).

Thanks! —XhantarTalk 08:36, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Split - I propose making articles for each individual series, like the foreign wikis do. Adding that entire article to this one would make it cluttered. - !Malomeat 23:17, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your suggestion—I agree. My main focus is to get Minor Characters of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure off the August 2006 backlog page of the Wikify WikiProject, so for now I'd like to perform changes only to Minor Characters of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, if possible.
I've noticed that there already exist separate articles for some of the characters (sections) mentioned at Minor Characters of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, e.g. Robert Edward O Speedwagon and William Antonio Zeppeli. How do you feel about creating separate articles for the rest of the minor characters as well, and then creating a table of the minor characters underneath a sub-section header for each series at JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, linking to the relevant articles? Obviously, there will be some clashes with existing articles, but those should be solvable using disambiguation. The new articles should be created by specifying " (manga)" or similar after the article title, in order to further disambiguate.
Here are a few advantages:
  • Overall, the main article will be better structured
  • Can introduce additional interwiki links where the current content mention the name of a minor character (and thus further wikify the article)
  • Should make it easier to later split up JoJo's Bizarre Adventure as well
  • Character names can be "redlinked", which will make creating new articles (with the correct names) much quicker, just by clicking on the link
Please see User:Xhantar/Sandbox1 for an example of what I had in mind. Bye bye, Sandbox1... *sniff* You have served me well. —XhantarTalk 07:42, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
That looks really good - although I think then each series probably warrants its own article sooner rather than later otherwise the original page will get huge - but the formart looks excellent. Madmedea 09:13, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
All done, I think. I've:

Summaries are meant to summerize

Series 2 summary is a mess —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.190.19.210 (talk) 07:22, 13 February 2007 (UTC).

Hey, the summaries needed to be fixed, not entirely deleted. Can I make new ones in a better format?

Go ahead. Just make sure they aren´t long, or spoil everything. - !Malomeat 21:44, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh hey, the individual pages for the series look awesome, nevermind

Individual pages for the series are fine, but there should be something on them in the article besides the chart at the bottom. We need a brief version with a link to the main page of each, under the manga heading. Doceirias 04:27, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Dude looks like Kakyoin

It should be added to Kakyoin's page that there is a character from Tenjo Tenge that pretty much has Kakyoin's hair. I don't know the name of the character; I only noticed this because a friend linked me to him. I can only assume it's intentional, if it's true that the creator of Tenjo Tenge is a JoJo fan. - Protomanzero 02:42, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Whatever happened to the Stands page?

I'm not quite sure how to check for the history of that page (since it's gone now, or maybe even deleted). I thought it was a good, extensive page, so I don't know if whoever did it is reading this...

67.125.21.203 03:34, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Other Powers

I propose we add another section on other powers that has been essential concepts to the Jojo universe, such as hamon (part 1, 2), the steel ball (part 7). Of course, I'm not sure if everyone would think this is necessary, cause some may view it as non-essential. However, I think it would be useful in: 1)explaining the terms uses on the page 2)prevent further confusion between "techniques" and "stands" (ex: SBR's steel balls spin technique is not a stand power). Eternal Sleeper 07:19, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

The minor characters article needs to be brought back.

It was apparently removed because it was deemed unnecessary, but is it really less necessary than 50 stubs for characters that, even if filled out with all the information related to them, would not be much longer than most stubs? I suggest making a minor characters article for every part and merging most of the character articles into them.--209.243.31.233 19:13, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

  • I agree but instead of a list for every series i suggest we make one large list for all 7 series so that it can be larger and that they wont be deleted like last time--Greedisland14 18:59, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
That'd be one huge article, though.--209.243.31.233 10:46, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Seperate them by series. - !Malomeat 08:42, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
That's what I said.--209.243.31.233 05:37, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Zeppelis

I propose the Zeppli family should be merged together under one article simply titled "The Zeppeli Family"

67.182.122.157 07:30, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Undertaking

A lot of minor characters have their own articles, (Hol Horse, Okuyasu Nijimura, etc.). Would anybody want to assist in making a set of articles for the minor characters of each series? Hatewind (talk) 03:55, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Jojobizvol1.jpg

Image:Jojobizvol1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Exactly why is part 7 considered seinen.

I haven't heard any arguments for or against this. --AnY FOUR! (talk) 23:27, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

There is only one basis for determining demographic: which magazine it runs in. Steel Ball Run is in Ultra Jump, which means it is seinen. (Of course, the first four volumes where in Weekly Jump, and are technically shonen, but that's just overcomplicating things.) Doceirias (talk) 23:34, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup

A lot of these JoJo-related articles are in need of a clean-up. Right now, the articles on each story arc are nothing but big plot dumps. Also, do we really need an article on every minor character that has appeared in the series. Jonny2x4 (talk) 21:22, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Agreed. The following article is not listed on the template, but seems to be part of this series: Anjuro "Angelo" Katagiri. G.A.S 15:24, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

is it still being serialized or running (I think it's on a hiatus based on the fact that Araki is starting to getting sore from drawing). 71.202.61.197 (talk) 21:53, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

why the American translation might be discontinued

probably because the manga is still being reviewed by the Muslim and Islam protest groups. [1] 71.202.61.197 (talk) 21:54, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Can someone explain to the profane what it is about?

I kind of understand that it's gone lost in the various cleanup phases, but right now I read the article and - never having read the manga itself -all I do undestand is that it's about a kind of sci-fi or fantasy manga. Some hint at the general plot and the themes of the story could be useful.

Without being too detailed, something like "YKK: a manga by Hitoshi Ashinano, about the dusk of humanity as seen by an android girl who happens to have a cafè at the end of the world. Slowly paced, it's a slice-of-life comic permeated by "mono-no-aware", the sense of transitority of being, and by the nostalgy that come with the disappearance of familiar beings along the years" could be enough. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.41.58.78 (talkcontribs) 18:35, 11 July 2009

The article still needs a huge amount of work, and as you pointed out, one thing it needs is a succinct plot description in the lead. Basically, JJBA follows the Joestar family through multiple generations (aptly all named "JoJo" or some variation thereof) as they try to kill Dio Brando to stop him from... taking over the world, or something sinister like that - it's been a while since I've read any of the series. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 18:19, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

JoJo Anime Episodes

So what do we do now that the anime is airing and has episode titles? There are Two so far (thanks to next episode preview). I tried to make a new article for it in the exact same vein as the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure OVA, I even used it as the template, but that page got deleted saying "We don't make new pages for anime adaptations" even though I copied the existing format used for the other Anime adaptation of this series... so what should we do about this then? The DVD release solicitations confirm the series will run for at least 26 episodes for this first season. 65.203.128.130 (talk) 23:09, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
