Killed during Battle of Britain?[edit]

His last flight is said to have taken place "as the Battle of Britain was petering out", but the date being in November 1941, surely that was at least a full year later than the conclusion of the Battle, October 1940.Cloptonson (talk) 20:27, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This footnote to the duration of the battle, given in the infobox to the article on the battle which states it as 10 July to 31 October 1940, says:
"The British date the battle from 10 July to 31 October 1940, which represented the most intense period of daylight bombing. German historians usually place the beginning of the battle in in May 1940 and end it mid-August 1941, with the withdrawal of the bomber units in preparation for Operation Barbarossa, the campaign against the Soviet Union, which began on 22 June 1941."
It can therefore be officially asserted, from POV both sides, that his death occurred after the end of the Battle of Britain. It may be inferred from the description of his last action that his flight were en route to attack Britain but note that Spitfires took part in "Rhubarb" raids to harass German positions in France and to escort bombers raiding the European mainland.Cloptonson (talk) 05:16, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
