"White was a member of the City Council and Board of Affairs of Charleston, West Virginia (1907–1911), and frequently served as the city's mayor pro tempore." - Can you state how many years he served as mayor pro tempore? Or is it just a temporary position.

There is actually no data available that mentions the lengths of his tenures as "mayor pro tempore," so I was forced to be intentionally vague. "White received an English education in both the local public schools" - can you wikilink "English education" as some readers might be confused over the meaning.

The source is not clear on what is meant by "English education," but this is usually meant to indicate "English language education" which would include grammar, reading, writing, vocabulary, etc. etc. Any suggestions for how to best illustrate the source's intention here? -- Caponer (talk) 11:16, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"White departed his home in Romney for Charleston, West Virginia, where he was entirely dependent upon himself and his own resources." I'm confused with this sentence, doesn't most men who leave home becomes entirely dependent upon themselves, so I'm not sure if that half of the sentence is needed. Also what year did he left home?

The second half of the sentence is meant to indicate that White was not reliant upon his family's wealth, as some young men from well-to-do families were. Because of his family's stature and large financial resources, it would be assumed that young White would have been sent to Charleston with a small stipend, but this was not the case. This sentence makes it clear that White was self-sufficient, which may be the source's way of telling the reader that other young men that came to Charleston from throughout the state were not. The sources do not give an exact date of White's arrival in Charleston. It was sometime in the mid-to-late 1880s. -- Caponer (talk) 11:16, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What is a "commission form of government"?

A commission form of government where regulations are crafted by a board or commission made up of "commissioners." For example, West Virginia's counties are governed by county commissions.
