"See also" Gary Webb[edit]

There is no reason to link these articles. This also holds for the "see also" section entry in Gary Webb, which was added by the same author. Maybe the author should try to write a list of whistleblowers and investigative journalists who died of suicide, and for whom this death cause is doubted. --2003:6:33AE:3D45:C454:1436:FA12:6B29 (talk) 10:44, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. Many wikipedia pages have links to similar situations/people/etc in the "see also" section. Ye9CYNMD (talk) 19:36, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Gary Webb has been removed and put back in the See Also section a couple of times so far. It's worth reading Gary Webb § Death to see the context. This isn't really going to be settled until the investigation is finished (if that), but I'm neither going to remove it or add it for now. Apocheir (talk) 21:32, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life and death[edit]

Before his death, he had given a deposition and undergone cross-examination from his own lawyers. I thought cross-examination is by the opponent's lawyers. Or was this a practice as a part of preparation for the trial? - Davidships (talk) 23:07, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good question! Based on some sources I found, it seems that he had been undergoing examination from both sides. With some searching, I managed to find out that the difference is that cross-examination is indeed done by the opponent's lawyers, the examination done by the witness's own lawyers is called direct examination. I've edited the information in the article. Bendegúz Ács (talk) 19:27, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mitch was born in Mt. Shasta, California. This needs to be changed from Pineville, Louisiana. I am his brother, Rodney Barnett 174.125.149.56 (talk) 21:26, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide a reliable source that can be used to verify this information. VQuakr (talk) 21:49, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The sources that were being used to support the assertion that he was born in Pineville do not actually say that. They just say he "had roots" there and that his residence was there at the time of his death. I've removed those mentions of his place of birth. Apocheir (talk) 21:55, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Charleston County coroner described the wound as self-inflicted, a description that Barnett's family and lawyers disagree with."

Came here after reading about the deceased in Time. It said his family believes PTSD and anxiety attacks led to his death. [1]

Rodney Barnett, John Barnett’s brother, told the Associated Press that John “was suffering from PTSD and anxiety attacks as a result of being subjected to the hostile work environment at Boeing, which we believe led to his death.” Meanwhile, Barnett’s family was less surprised by his death, claiming that the former Boeing employee had mental health issues, including PTSD. “He was suffering from PTSD and anxiety attacks as a result of being subjected to the hostile work environment at Boeing,” they said, “which we believe led to his death.” [2]

Already done This quote is already in the Personal life and death section. Jamedeus (talk) 17:52, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The user was pointing out that the sentence in the lede contradicted the quote from the family. I've removed the sentence from the lede. Apocheir (talk) 21:24, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

incorrect job title[edit]

John was a quality-control manager, not an aerospace engineer according to every source used on this article 172.56.50.158 (talk) 09:50, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

He was probably educated as an aerospace engineer, and his job title at Boeing was quality control manager. I've added a reference that refers to him as a "qualified aerospace engineer" twice. There doesn't seem to be much information about his education available, and that's complicated by John Barnett being a common name. Apocheir (talk) 21:46, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
an aerospace engineer designs airplanes, he worked as a quality control inspector and then quality control manager at Boeing for more than 30 years
1 source that contradicts hundreds of across several years should not be used to keep inaccurate content on a biography 98.198.31.90 (talk) 04:41, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Houston![edit]

Most (but not all) of the IP edits made to this article over the past week or so have come from AT&T or Comcast IPs that the whois tool places in the Houston metropolitan area (either from the hostname or from geolocation). This includes 174.170.41.102 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) and 98.198.31.90 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), who left talk page messages above. I'm not sure if this is a single editor whose IP keeps changing (intentionally or not) or what. If that's you and you're reading this, please make an account. Apocheir (talk) 22:43, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Or don't, IP. It's entirely optional. VQuakr (talk) 23:47, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's a Boeing facility in Houston, Texas. Unless you have an issue with any of the edits, please remove this entry from this talk page and discuss the problematic edits. 170.203.98.115 (talk) 22:34, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
