John Bassette history link[edit]

Hello I'm having trouble editing the link "Jim Ballard" on the John Bassette page. The hyperlink takes one to the Jim Ballard of Mount Union football fame, not the performer and producer meant to be featured on this page. That Jim Ballard has a website who's URL is www.jimballardmusic.net If anyone knows how to edit that link properly, please do so. Thanks JRBAL (Jrbal 16:42, 11 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Hi, you may have to create a disambiguation page, or else move your Jim Ballard page to "Jim Ballard (music producer)" or something similar.

Sleeping Poet EP[edit]

I played the Hessler Street fair back around '77 or so, and John was there of course. If memory serves (sometimes it doesn't), he had an EP out around that time entitled "The Sleeping Poet," but I didn't see that on the discography list. Does anyone have the date or details for this?

Notability tag[edit]

John Bassette was the most popular native folk singer in Cleveland during his career. He was a published author, and a local cable television personality when there were hardly any such things. Of course he hasn't had a lot of google hits, since a series of strokes ended his career all too soon in the early nineties. You might get better results, though, with a search on John Bassette folk or John Bassette music. In any event, risking accusations of not AGF, anyone who is familiar with our history would wonder whether Mattisse's tag is not more about the fact that I created the article than about the subject. Out of 68 articles I've created, over 45 either have tags by Mattisse (or one of her sock-puppets), or did on a deleted version before recreation. Over 20 have tags placed within the last 8 weeks. I've edited over 150 articles, many if not most of which also have Mattisse or sock-puppet's tags. Rosencomet (talk) 00:01, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I support Rosencomet's position. I lived in Cleveland in the late 1960's and early 1970's and John Bassette was the dominant folk music personality at that place and time. There was simply no one else of comparable stature. What evidence is needed to delete a Notability tag? I am certain that anyone who was in Cleveland during this period, and/or had anything to do with the overall midwest folk music scene in the '70's and '80's, would put John Bassette's name near the top of their list -- but that's not even the strongest argument. A recording artist with nine released recordings and a tribute CD of covers would seem to me to be notable by definition. The tribute CD should count as "published peer recognition"; a non-paid obituary in a major urban US newspaper should be counted as a "significant coverage in reliable sources that [are] independent of the subject". I'm going to add some details to this article, including more coverage of the tribute CD, and unless the person who tagged the entry posts some reply to the comments here, I will remove the Notability tag one week from today. I have removed the Notability tag, a bit early -- no response was made by the tagger or anyone else in support of the tag -- and in light of the additions I have made to the entry, which include citations from a university-press book and a major newspaper which address Bassette's significance.
