Additional reference - can't work out how to get this into the current text "No. 30011". The London Gazette. 6 April 1917. {{cite magazine}}: Check date values in: |date= (help) — this apparently covers his substantive majority during WWI, preceded by being granted actign rank "No. 30011". The London Gazette. 17 November 1916. {{cite magazine}}: Check date values in: |date= (help). These both refer to him being employed by the Civil power (Indian Police?), rather than being on the staff. David Underdown (talk) 14:26, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
