first publication date[edit]

The date of 1917 given for the first appearance of John Carter in print doesn't agree with other Wiki articles which give 1911 or 1912.

All the dates are valid; the novel was written in 1911, first published in magazine form in 1912, and first published in book form in 1917. I have amended the text to eliminate the confusion. BPK 20:37, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Montezuma[edit]

I was just wondering if anyone knew if the cave in which he hid in Arizona was perhaps supposed to be the same cave Montezuma is in. Just a thought. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.155.198.100 (talkcontribs)

No. At least it is never alluded to in the book. You can read them online, if you like, to check for yourself. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 18:54, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN?[edit]

i am familiar with the league but why are all their links on the bottom of the page. it suggests that burroughs created the character for the league and not that he was borrowed for it by alan moore. i expected to find a listing of john carter novels.Citizenjamesford (talk) 14:04, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In other media ZOE[edit]

Recent unedits and the like, have proven that I need to give some sort of proof for what I added. I can't submit this as a cited source. But it should demonstrate that it is withing the realm of common knowledge; and combined with the recent edit to the wording that does not assume the creator/character's reasoning behind calling the protaganist "John Carter." Here is a link to a clip from the series where the WIRED officer Baan Dorfloun first calls Links, John Carter (set to the part of the video where he says it). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKDmEh0HJWY#t=2m14s —Preceding unsigned comment added by PedanticSophist (talkcontribs) 04:36, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Planet Hulk observation[edit]

The 2010 Lions Gate Adaptation of "Planet Hulk" is a virtual retelling of the John Carter Story "A Princess Of Mars". The parallels are too close to be a coincidence.

Similarities can be found between DC Comic's Superman and John Carter in that John Carter derives super strength and can jump great distances due to the weaker gravitation on Mars compared to Earth. Superman derives strength and the ability to fly due to the "Alien Planet" Earth's red sun.

Just an observation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.216.61.102 (talkcontribs)

192.216.61.102, your constructive edits to the 'pedia are welcome, but this is not a discussion board nor a forum to espouse original research. While such observations and parallels may be valid, we need verifiable references to back them up in order to submit them to the article. Thanks! — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 16:11, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I replaced the image of Carter's family tree with one using the Wikipedia family tree templates, at right. But the image is used in several places on the 'pedia. Does everyone like the template version better or the image? If we go with the template version, we'll probably have to create a page for it and links to it where the image is used now. Discuss... — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 17:04, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, this article isn't as heavily watched as I had thought. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 17:12, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
