Untitled[edit]

The name Johnny Coates should be notable enough for Wikipedia article - after all, his death was mentioned on Newsnight on September 18 2012.

Many thanks to the people who worked on this since I created this article! ACEOREVIVED (talk) 00:04, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edits[edit]

I've partially reverted back to my last version of the article, including:

  • We have one source for a birth date (IMDB). Historically, it's middle of the road as far as accuracy, and we'll hopefully soon be able to correct it if wrong. It's certainly better than the "in his eighties" guess by the BBC. That's why I put c. in front of it, per our standard style, using the template designed for it (with a nbsp separator). I don't see any reason the date of death was removed, nor why the correct nbsp-ndash-space construct was replaced with a hyphen, nor why the parentheses were removed.
  • I changed the BBC refname back to include the date because it's likely we'll have multiple BBC refs in the article, which will need to be dab'd.
  • Because IMDB is being used as a ref, it's where it belongs – in the refs section.
  • Because two of the refs are used in the dates in the lead, I originally chose to name them and put them below in the refs section. The article is easier to edit as a result, without all the clutter in the middle of the prose. There's a reason the template supports this. They are also again correctly positioned according to what they are used to cite.

And now, I've partially reverted myself, having found an "official" biography was written last year, a quote from which says he was born in 1927, which has been used by a couple other sources. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 00:42, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
