Bruce and the Scottish Church.[edit]

Clement's excommunication of Robert Bruce did not have any effect on his claim to the crown. He received almost immediate absolution from Bishop Robert Wishart of Glasgow, and was crowned with the full support of the Scottish church, the papal inderdict notwithstanding. Red Comyn at Falkirk[edit]

It's a myth. The Scottish light horse at Falkirk did not 'withdraw'; they were driven from the field by the heavy English cavalry. Be wary of the Blind Harry view of history and its modern 'Braveheart' incarnation. Rcpaterson 22:36, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Death and civil war[edit]

In the last sentence of the Death in Dumfries section:

"The death of his father plunged Scotland into a brief but bloody civil war, largely concluded by 1308, but with political reverberations that were to last for decades."

Is the civil war referred to in this sentence that described here Wars of Scottish Independence#King Robert the Bruce: 1306–1328? If so where does the claim of it being largely concluded in 1308 come from? I feel that there should be a link to the war in question or at least a citation to back up these dates.
