Untitled[edit]

I contest this article's neutrality epecially in this section:

"His letter of resignation stated that he was resigning because of attacks by members of his own party. These attacks were spearheaded by a journalist, Ivan Camilleri who happens to be the brother of Alan Camilleri who at the time acted as the Prime Minister's Public Relations Officer.

It now transpires that at the time of these attacks, a report was given to the Prime Minister implicating Dalli in abuse in the adjudication of a tender for hospital equipment. This report was commissioned by one of the tenderers (SIMED) who offered the investigator involved 3% of the contract value (estimated at Euros sixty five million) if the contract was adjudicated to them. After the police investigated this report, the author of the report admitted that it was a total fabrication. The police are taking action against this investigator. Dalli insists that he was never informed about the existence of this report and only became aware of it when the author was arraigned in Court." Maltesedog 19:22, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is generally understood and accepted that Wikipedia is on line to allow contributors to publish and protect the freedom of information providing that the contents in the article are true. The writer of this article confirms that its contents are historically correct and can be supported by articles that were published in Maltese newspapers and books. They can also be supported by documents in the Maltese Courts and TV programs that were transmitted at the time.

The changes that Demdem continues to make amount to a restriction on the freedom of information and covering up the truth. Wikipedia is not on line for people who wish to glorify themselves and neglect to publish all the facts.

In view of this the contributor Hotblackice challenges Demdem or John Dalli to deny the facts contributed by Hotblackice and start legal proceedings against Hotblackice forthwith in a U.K. court where the writer resides. In U.K. Courts all men are equal and the courts guarantee impartiality and justice for all.

Dalli's "membership" of the EPP[edit]

Dalli is being described here as a "member of the European People's Party" (EPP). This is not accurate. True Dalli is an MP with the Nationalist Party which, in turn, is a member of the EPP. But, as far as I know, only political parties, not individuals can be members of the EPP (its MEPs are, strictly speaking, members of the "Group of the European People's Party"). In any case, the indirect link between Dalli and the EPP will have to go (or, at least, become irrelevant) when he takes up office in which he'll be supposed to serve with due impartiality.

Dalli's achievements[edit]

Every now and then this piece of text makes a re-appearance:

"Dalli transformed the Maltese economy from a centralised socialist economy to a vibrant market economy ready to join the European Union, through pushing economic growth, new social structures, increased fiscal morality and privatisation. While downsizing the labour intensive textile industry, Dalli developed the higher added value light industrial sectors and created new economic sectors such as the Freeport and Financial Services."

With all due respect, when all this happened Dalli was a Minister in a Cabinet where decisions and responsibility are collegial. Credit, in this case, cannot be attributed to one individual and, if it has, it had to go to George Bonello Du Puis, Minister of Finance between 1987 and 1990 and during whose tenure the Freeport and Financial Services were first created.

Dalli as European Commission[edit]

The previous edits in the European Commissioner section misrepresented the contents of the references and, in one case, did away with one of them altogether. Other information was added which is unreferenced and, at times, the relevance of which is not clear (and you don't make up for this shortcoming by using CAPS)!.

NPOV tag[edit]

I've added a {{NPOV}} tag to the article due to its numerous examples of blatantly biased edits, including "has brought an air of innovation and development to his portfolio...", "has reinvigorated the thrust towards empowerment...", "He reiterates that his vision and mission is to..." and "drawing on his vast experience of Libya...". A lot of information in this article is either unsourced or, when it is, is not faithful to what is said in the source. Whatever controversies Dalli found himself found himself in are conveniently "explained off". Finally, it has to be updated to include the latest news about the allegation of US$100 million trasfer which, by the way, appeared in major papers like the IHT. This Bahamas story was spun by the Commission at the time an important vote in the EP about OLAF was to be taken. They are quoting a suspect character who has gone to Malta to do suspect transactions. To be honest, this is one of the worst articles I have come across on English Wikipedia. It is largely uncited, frequently alleged citations do not contain the information given in the article, it is extremely one-sided and reads more like a fan club press release than an objective encyclopaedic article, and some of the statements about third parties are potentially libellous. I have made a start on identifying these infringements of Wikipedia's code on biographical articles, to give the authors a chance to clean them up. Any potentially libellous statements will be referred for purging by the BLP team, to ensure that they are removed from the history, as well as from the article. Some days ago I asked that User:Bendolt, the person responsible for the abysmal quality of this article, be banned. This is an obvious WP:SPA who, in two years and a half has done nothing but edit this one article to make it read like a North Korean article about Kum il Sung. As you can see from the archive it was decided by the powers-that-be that "don't think there's anything to do here, since the checkusers won't connect a named account to an IP address and the target article has been placed under pending changes". The semi-protection, by the way, was at my request following similar (identical?) changes from IP 213.165.168.150.
I have a long history of editing Wikipedia and a positive track record. Following this request, I decided I'm quitting. If administrators/clerks cannot tell when an account has been created just to drive through one person's political agenda I won't be bothered. Demdem (talk) 15:45, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think you may be expecting too much from a bunch of volunteers. There are tens of thousands of editors and over 4 million pages and no one with any central authority to take any action on their own. Removal of unsourced content per WP:BLP[edit]

  • The Revision of the Tobacco Directive: A harsh critic of smoking, Dalli worked to revise the Tobacco Directive with the aim to introduce strong measures to make it less attractive for the younger generation to start smoking. He piloted a revision of the directive throughout 2011 and 2012, even in the face of opposition from within the Commission and other quarters.
  • In the process of developing the new legal instrument as a base for more effective smoking control, SANCO[clarification needed] submitted the draft of the new directive to an impact assessment on 21 March 2012. On 20 April 2012 the Impact Assessment Board proposed a review of certain aspects and SANCO resubmitted the directive to a second impact assessment on 11 June 2012. A clearance was obtained on 12 July 2012. SANCO decided to launch the directive for Interservice consultation within the European Commission services on 22 August 2012.

I've removed the above text per WP:BLP which says: Contentious material about living persons (or in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced – whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable – should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion. Please find legitimate reliable, secondary sources (a copy of a letter from the BLP subject is not a legitimate source for this kind of content) before re-adding this text. Unsourced contentious content[edit]

Any other content that is contentious and unsourced will also be removed if reliable sources are not provided in the next few days. I appreciate the efforts of all editors to expand this BLP but WP has strong polices about protecting the rights of our BLP subjects from unsubstantiated allegations and controversial content. Really bad example of a coatrack article?[edit]

It seems to me that large portions of the current article should be excised; essentially everything in sections 3-11 (inclusive). Almost all of this seems to be a dispute that involves two groups or bodies identified only as SANCO and OLAF. Neither of these terms are spelled out or linked so that non-Maltese readers can understand what they are. Nearly all of it seems to be a defense of the politician against charges that these two groups have made against Dalli. Those sections are certainly far too long and contentious for a biography. If there is no rationale to keep this information, it should be deleted or at least moved to other articles that better explain these political disputes in context. --Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 18:18, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
