Portrait[edit]

A portrait of John Davis. Feel free to insert it in the article. PHG (talk) 19:39, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Birth Date[edit]

Everywhere seems to say 1550'ish, an anonymosu user changed it to 1543, so watch out for that.--EchetusXe (talk) 15:44, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Davis' picture[edit]

The picture of Davis presented here appears in http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/explorers/kids/h3-1341-e.html as "Sir Walter Raleigh". Is there a mistake? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.184.87.187 (talk) 12:18, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While the picture appears at [1] and [2] as John Davis, it is worth comparing with the picture of Raleigh at [3]. It's possible that the "John Davis" picture is a contemporary copy of the Raleigh engraving that has become associated with John Davis on the net (possibly from a mis-reading of the collectionscanada website). Hmmm.... Shem (talk) 18:42, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Google image sites that use this pic for Davis got it from us, so I'm removing it until some very authoritative source is given labelling the pic and explaining why it's mistaken for Raleigh. In the meantime, feel free to add real, undisputed pics of the right guy. — LlywelynII 11:31, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There is a small portrait of Davis holding his backstaff at The National Maritime Museum (bottom left)

I've used the NMM image, or a detail from it. Shem (talk) 19:09, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

wp:cn tag re.: religious ceremony[edit]

The comment regarding the Inuit attack related to an interrupted religious ceremony is un-cited and the citation at the end of the following sentence leads to an article that does not mention anything about a religious ceremony. Kind regards to all, Hu Nhu (talk) 18:08, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
