When I was at "that" school in the 70's there was a rumour that JAG had once been sent off the rugby pitch for swearing. Any truth in this or was it just wishful thinking on our part. Would have been quite funny coming from a religious zealot such as him. SophieCat (talk) 21:26, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He once allowed us to watch a recent VHS recording of a rare TV repeat of him playing some important match. It turned out to be the one where he was sent off. He looked embarrassed. Nobody laughed of course. "You boy! I don't like your hair, boy! See me tomorrow morning with it cut". They do not make them like that any more... nemo (talk) 16:50, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
He was my headmaster as well. We didn't really get on. Others more notable than me may remember him from the same time. Ghmyrtle (talk) 15:48, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And mine. Stuart Haggett, his succesor as head, recounted his first meeting with the man on The Times obituary page. The arriving family was looking round the headmaster's house. They remarked on the lack of heating. JAG said that when it felt chilly, he opened a window, breathed in the air and closed it. He said it didn't seem so cold inside after that.
