Umpire[edit]

Common practice during 19th century baseball was, when the umpire scheduled to call the game failed to show up for the game, a player from each team was picked and the two would call the game instead. One would station himself behind home plate and the other in field. So these instances would not neccesarily mean that they were hired and paid to be an umpire, just filling in for the day. So I changed the infobox lead to read manager instead, as he was hired and paid to be one. Any questions please let me know.Neonblak talk - 16:46, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted the manager part of my edit, noticing the conflict of resources. Since I tend to trust Retrosheet more than BR, I concur with the article's direction in regards to that.Neonblak talk - 16:52, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe I can't do math, but didn't he play for 5 teams in a 5 year career?20:06, 1 November 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.74.218.101 (talk)
