First American Symphony?[edit]

I found a reference that says George Frederick Bristow wrote the first American symphonies. I took this claim out of the article on John Knowles Paine until the dates can be checked. If someone with historical info on the genre would like to do that? Pkeets (talk) 07:02, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about the first American symphony, but there are several before Bristow. Anthony Heinrich was writing symphonies before Bristow. "Ornithological Combat of Kings" dates from 1837. AppaAliApsa (talk) 22:28, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Category, "Native American composers"[edit]

I don't think this is correct? The article certainly makes no reference to indigenous heritage, nor could I find any reference to this on a quick Google search. 49.178.20.144 (talk) 20:06, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the category. The only thing that is certain: he was born in the United States. This does not make him one of the indigenous peoples of the continent.Dogru144 (talk) 18:58, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
