Birthdate[edit]

Somebody's keen to remove this person's birthdate. Well, perhaps the birthdate is wrong. Rather than simply reverting the removal, perhaps somebody who has reliable materials about Payne can revert the removal and provide a credible source for the date. -- Hoary (talk) 11:12, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please see my comments at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#John Payne (singer). Mike R (talk) 14:27, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To repeat those comments here (as they will soon be lost to the AN/I archive), Wikipedia's policy on articles about living people supports not including birthdate information unless it is adequately sourced. Bondegezou (talk) 21:40, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I only saw this thread after adding the birthdate which is stated on de:John Payne (Musiker). I don't find the previous discussion on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#John Payne (singer), anyway, I have reverted my addition. What is so wrong with that date? http://groups.google.com/group/jpmusic/browse_thread/thread/0061591e1d87d12b seems to indicate that the same date can be found in the book "The Heat Goes On" by David Gallant which is listed as a source in the German article. Hi BNutzer. Wikipedia's policy on articles about living people recommends caution about including birthdate information unless the information is adequately sourced. In that context, a second-hand comment that the information is in "The Heat Goes On" seems insufficient sourcing to me. However, I'll see if I can check the book directly (I've got a copy but I'm not certain where it is(!) and it went through a number of different editions). Bondegezou (talk) 14:31, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's on German Wikipedia, so that's proof enough for me. I thought it was the next day.Sposato (talk) 18:21, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think another Wikipedia article constitutes a reliable source! Payne has asked that his birthdate be removed. In that context, under WP:BLP, I think we can respect that request. I will edit accordingly. Bondegezou (talk) 13:53, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can't imagine why, but if that's what he wants, so be it. Yet, we can still go somewhere else, and it's there. The other article also deleted his birthday. This came up last year.Sposato (talk) 21:12, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

External Link[edit]

John Payne's own site has been hacked, so it's not really there right now. It should be back shortly. Sposato (talk) 17:20, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Now it's offline again, but should be back shortly. FotoPhest (talk) 01:56, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Photo[edit]

Payne sent me a picture of himself that was taken recently. At first, he said it was for here, but then said it was for a fan wiki, which doesn't seem to work right. I asked him if I could use the photo here. I'll have to wait for him to get back to me because he is always on the move. Right now, I'm using a derivative of a GPS photo from Flickr, even though it's not the best choice of picture, but there doesn't seem to be any free images that can go here.
