July 29, 2015 video[edit]

On December 3, 2015 I added the following paragraph on Joshua Feuerstein:

Feuerstein also uploaded a video onto the video-sharing website Vimeo.com on July 29, 2015 in which he is shown stating "I say, tonight, we punish Planned Parenthood. I think it’s time that abortion doctors should have to run and hide and be afraid for their life.” [sic] The original video was taken down on November 30, 2015, but it was saved and reposted onto YouTube by several others.

This information was referenced to two sources that included an embedded link to the YouTube video as well as additional context. That paragraph was taken removed by an editor with the objection "highly-derogatory claims sourced to personal blogs; claims of this nature need solid reliable sources". If I understand the editor's reasoning correctly, the objection to my entry was that it was 1) a derogatory claim that was 2) sourced to personal blogs.

As for the first part of the objection: I apologize that the addition I made to Wikipedia did not make this clear, but it's not a mere "claim". The video exists, and Mr. Feuerstin can be seen on video embedded in both of the links I used as references and saying the words I quoted. Whether it's highly derogatory or not is a subjective judgement on the part of the reader; I tried to make what I wrote as neutral as possible.

The second part of the objection was that the information was sourced to personal blogs: the sourcing was to a Patheos.com (admittedly a blog) but the first source listed was an article on the Addicting Info news site, a source that has been used in other sensitive articles on Wikipedia without objection, and it was written by Kerry-Anne Mendoza, a journalist with years of experience in reporting.

I understand that with living persons care needs to be taken. I do think, however, that this is a relevant piece of information that is important to understanding the work of Mr. Feuerstein (someone who actively sought the role of public figure), as well as to understanding the larger context of events in subsequent months (at least four arsons (in California, Washington, Illinois, and Louisiana)(https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2015/10/02/four-arsons-74-days-planned-parenthood-clinics), and a mass shooting in Fort Hood, CO. For that reason, I'm re-posting the information with the reference to the Patheos article removed as requested in the editor's objection, but keeping the Addicting Info sourcing, and adding a reference consisting of a direct link to the YouTube video to make it more clear.

I thought this guy was a comedian, and that his videos were jokes intended to provoke the rabid right into making fools of themselves. I'm so confused. -50.59.88.46 (talk) 19:07, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've changed the sourcing for this - Addicting Info isn't usable as a RS on Wikipedia and the YT link was dead. There's nothing to really show that it was Feuerstein's channel and if it wasn't, then we really can't link to it because it'd be a copyright issue. I was able to link to an article written by the SPLC, which should be usable. Now what really concerned me is the following sentence:
"This video is cited as inspiration for the Planned Parenthood shooting November 27, 2015 in Colorado Springs, CO. "
That's a huge BLP issue because of the claims and we'd need for this claim to be espoused in several very, very reliable sources because it's essentially laying part of the blame (or at least inferring this) on Feuerstein. I've left the rest of it, but I've removed this sentence and I'd highly recommend that it remain off the article until there's strong sourcing. Tokyogirl79 (｡◕‿◕｡) 10:35, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

One-dimensional Article[edit]

From reading this article, juxtaposed with those of left-wing activists, you can clearly notice that there is practically no biographical content here at all. Just a Paragraph by paragraph list of some of the more controversial things Feuerstein has said with a left-wing rebuttal to each one. LikkerdySplit (talk) 05:31, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
