This person's name is not John Joshua Kirby[edit]

The title of the article John Joshua Kirby is a misnomer. The artist never referred to himself in this way, being always 'Joshua Kirby', and so he appears in his prints and publications, in contemporary obituaries, and in writings referring to him in his own time. The mistake of calling him 'John Joshua' has arisen through some elision of the artist with his father John Kirby (topographer), author of The Suffolk Traveller. This is amended in the ODNB entry for Joshua Kirby, from the incorrect form in George Goodwin's 1892 article for the original DNB, but news of it has not yet reached Wikipedia. However the mistake, wherever it originated, has become a widespread one, and it is therefore likely that readers may search for the artist under this name.

Therefore I have redirected that page to the present article titled 'Joshua Kirby', leaving the wrong title for a re-direction to it, and introducing an explanation of the fact in a footnote to the article's text.Eebahgum (talk) 14:31, 25 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
