Jupe[edit]

I do not believe that this is what was commonly meant by "Juping" on IRC, particularly EFNet.

If you look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EFnet you will see:

"In July 2001 a service called CHANFIX (originally named JUPES) was created, which is designed to give back ops to channels which have lost ops or been taken over. In the case of having no ops CHANFIX will automatically join the channel and op people who fit the requirements."

It was always my understanding that Jupe was named after a machine that was like jupiter.blah.blah. It was a disconnected server that a select few could ride in on a network reconnect and clean up a desynced or overtaken channel for its appropriate users.

I could be mistaken about this, or it could have several meanings. It's possible that this Jupiter user got lots of techniques named after him. This article would be great if it had references to the efnet pages on the subject.

cm[edit]

most common use of jupe on efnet is to take a nick (eg: using botnet/drones to steal a nick and prevent anyone else frmo using it )

second most common use is server-side blocking of a channel NSANE (talk) 21:42, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
