Raul?[edit]

"Altogether, Jupp Heynckes scored 51 goals in 64 matches in European club competitions which puts him in fourth rank after Italy's Filippo Inzaghi with 68, Gerd Müller with 65 and Eusébio with 57 goals." Shouldn't Heynckes rather be placed in 5th place, as IMHO Raul (Real/Schalke) has scored like 65 or 70 goals in European club competitions. "manager" vs. "coach"[edit]

The use of the term manager to describe Heynckes' role is really confusing. I think maybe this is due to UK tradition, where the coach of a football team is also the manager. But in the rest of Europe's football teams, these roles are usually filled by two different people. Case in point, to call Heynckes the manager of Bayern München borders on flat wrong; in German, he is the Trainer, which pretty much translates as coach, while Uli Hoeneß as the "Präsident" manages the team. This distinction is made in all German clubs, and many, if not all, other European countries, e.g. Spain (Presidente vs. Entrenador) and France (Président vs. Entraîneur).

No need to discuss there actually. European football articles use British English where the term is manager. If it were a North American club article, it might be acceptable to call him a coach. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:23, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Jupp Heynckes[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Jupp Heynckes's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Quotation marks[edit]

A change I made to the style of quotation mark was recently reverted, so I'd like to explain my edit. The applicable standard, MOS:QUOTEMARKS, makes no reference to European style quotation marks and states a preference for quotation marks that appear like "this". Also, the section header uses straight quotes, and my edit created more uniformity. I will not revert the revert, but I do not believe that „this“ style of quotation mark is appropriate for the English language Wikipedia. I agree with Walter Görlitz. It is not correct to change for example the spelling in referenced material, so why should it be correct to change the quotes? --Jaellee (talk) 17:47, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A bit over tabled?[edit]

No dispute that Heynckes is an important manager and there is rightly a lot of focus on this in the article. However at present there are three Managerial tables: the standard WDL per club, a more detailed table of each season's results and then a third displaying the multiple stints at certain club, while also repeating in text that he has been at those clubs more than once. To me, this latter table is in particular is totally unnecessary, anyone who is interested will easily observe multiple spells in the Infobox, in the biography and in the complete manager stats table, to mention and repeat it again is overkill IMO. I would also say that since a detailed table has been created, the standard WDL table could also go, with the subtotals shown in separate rows as occurs in player stats tables. I don't recall seeing that display style in a manager table before, but I also don't recall seeing a season by season table either. Anyway, I think it should be looked at please.
